Description The word Jerusalem means ''city of peace'' in Hebrew, Jerusalem is the holy place of three major religions of christianity, islam and judaism. Since more than 3000 years Jerusalem've experienced the bloodshed of millions of peoples, who tired to seize control of the city or defend it against invaders.

Siege of Jerusalem(614) happend during jewish revolts against Heraclius, where more than 20000 jewish rebels under command of Nehemiah ben Hushiel with the help of considerable number of persian troops under command of Shahrbaraz besieged the city for twenty days and kept pounding the walls of Jerusalem with ballistas and other engines.

The siege resulted in a massacre of the Christians in Jerusalem and destruction of Christian churches and other buildings, and notably the destruction of the Church of the Holy Sepulcure. According to Antiochus, Shahrbaraz ordered a swift razing and looting of Jerusalem. Having recognized the assistance of the Jews in the significant capture, he even gave them the opportunity to personally massacre their Christian enemies.

Kinda saddens me that a place that should have been peaceful is violent to this day

Indeed, it's a sad fact, that so much have been shed, mostly in the name of God, to gain the control over the ''land of peace''

Hm nice one!And again rare work from rarely depicted period.Interresting thing is although this period is relatively poorly described in the sources that preserved, some episodes are described in great detail.

thx^^! greater details does not obligatory represent a better description of history, unfortunately history haven't been told always fairly. for example there are almost no persian sources about achaemenids, sassanid eras; anyway east roman empire was the  most amazing civilization ever(in my opinion) and jerusalem've been always a magnificient city, the relations between jews and romans was  kinda epic.

just for a short time, then byzantines began their reconquista, umayyads and byzantines fought also many years for territories in levant and anatolia, only under muslim rule people were a bit more pleased because they were usually more liberal than the others.

Which is what makes me very irritated when certain theatrical releases depict Romans during the Roman-Arab wars in Classical wardrobes.

Do you know that Omar Ibn Khattab was so kind that he lifted the ban from Jews entering Jerusalem by the Christian Byzantines ?

yes he was really liberal, not only him but even later islamic states gave the jews a lot of rights, they could even have high positions under fatimid  calophat. Omar ibn khattab was really a good politician and leader.

True, not only that but in Al Andalus they had the most rights there, one had the title of a vizier but when the reconquista ended with both expulsion of Jews and Muslims, Ottoman fleet was sent to rescue them and after that Jews were given full protection by the ottoman empire but Jews betrayed them by rebelling against them and helping the British Invade the Ottoman Empire in WW1.

oh, ok, i acctually don't know much about much about WWI(almost nothing), but agree with you about al andalus, the eras of islamic reign on hispania is called by some scholars''the golden ages of jewish culture in iberian peninsula', but i'm not sure with ottomans, with all respect to our turkish brothers, to my opinion they've done too many wrong things.

True, you see under Islamic rule everyone was happy and satisfied in Al Andalus and other Islamic Sates around the world but unfortunately today its very misunderstood.

the world'vechanged my brother, maybe we also need to change . i identify myself as a religious, i don't care about propagandas or haters, but it's maybe the time to think about secularism, we shouldn't consider any change a threat to our identification.

I know that, but we should always follow the Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)/(SAW) and if there's any conflict we should choose alternate routes which does not conflict with our religion

Still curious what wrong things have ottoman empire done
