I'm a Christian, Chrisitanity is the darn awesome truth, and I'm never close minded, only rational. I'm sorry you lack closer relation with God, perhaps try another denomination of the Church (I'm the non-denominational denomination). Catholics have several attributes not found in other denominations of the Church. It is important to stand firm in your belief and not let sin take over. While "close-minded" can be an... acceptable description, I'd like to say decency isn't illegal. The Bible clearly states that God made the heavens and the Earth, and the entire universe is INFINITE. Could we create that? No. So who are we to question God? The Bible also says that being gay is unacceptable, the devil's handiwork. It also says we should try to avoid cussing or swearing, and I say AVOID because we're human! Everyone has done it, it's a fallen world overrun by stuff like this; however, there is no excuse. God knows our every thought. Let that sink in.
The most important factor in Christianity is our belief and relation with God, and I'm sorry to hear nither of those have been nurtured in your life. Instead of becoming a radiant bloom, it has slowly shriveled and died, left abandoned in the darkest shadows of your mind where you never venture. However, IT IS NOT TOO LATE. Try another denomination, try another church, TRY to rekindle the most important relation in your life before you too shrivel up and die, go to hell, and live the rest of eternity, which stretches on into the bleary distance, in fiery torture, the pain never ceasing to exist.Β
Don't believe the Bible? Open your eyes to hundreds of historical cities, scrolls, artifacts, and much more that lines up perfectly with every word in the Bible's
text!
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" -Jerimiah 29:11

I'm a Christian and I'm actually extremely open-minded. I'm pro-choice, pro-equality, not against same-sex relationships (I'm gay and in a relationship myself), LBGTQ-supportive, I believe in evolution, I'm very respectful of those who belong to other religions, and most of my closer friends irl are actually Pagans since I'm a former occultist. I'm also a firm democratic-socialist so... about as liberal as they come. Yeah... some other Christians tend to see me as being far to liberal, but I don't care. Their views of me do not affect my relationship with God and my love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
I'm very sorry to hear you had a bad experience at your church... :c

So...do you think there are other god's besides the one and only God? And that they have any ability to save you from the evils of this world? I don't understand why this reference upsets you. .-.
Plus, I disagree that ALL Christians and Jews are closed-minded. I think that is a very closed-minded view in itself, but that's besides the point. Some are, but that's not due to the faith, but because of misunderstandings and hypocrisy, which, sadly, are running rampant through the church nowadays.

I know it's an old comment but, I still think I should put my opinion on this
I think that if God claimed to be that lovely and dovely as he said, I think he wouldn't be that
egoistic to say "i am the only one God that exist, the only one who can save you, ecc" I just can not
understand this. Lots of Gods and Goddess have been venerated before Christianity started to conquer the majority of the world's population.
Egiptians, Pagans, and the list go on, they were before Christianity, and they all wereΒ polytheists.
I am not attacking you, but I can understand why that made she kinda upset? (i don't think she was upset lmfao)
Plus she just said that Christianity, and Judaism. She didn't say anything about Christians, or Jews, she was just reffering to the religion.
(also I agree with you, not all christians and jews are closed minded, but some extremists and fanatic religious are really nasty.)

How exactly is "love thy neighbour as thyself" or something like the Ten Commandments closed-minded? and what about dying for mankind's sins in the way that Jesus did? being crucified is a horrible thing
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crucificβ¦
and doing all this while suffering taunts and jeers by the crowd, and the throned crown. The Ten Commandments are the base of some of the most liberal constitutions in the world, whereas the Egyptians and Persians were such still had obscure cults with strange beliefs such as the Spartans or the Maenads.

You don't seem to understand what 'closed minded' means. Closed minded means "not ready to receive to new ideas" (literally straight from the dictionary). So none of the things you have provided are things that can actually display in any way that the religions are not close minded.
Egyptians and Persians don't have beliefs that are any more obscure than those of a Christian. Christians believe a man made a woman out of a rib bone and then a magic talking snake talked her into eating the magic fruit off a magic tree.

Will-of-the-spurr In reply to Destrauxe [2014-01-02 19:05:22 +0000 UTC]
The Bible is a complex book written by many authors and most of its teachings come through symbolism and metaphorical language. For example, the Ten Commandments? thou shalt not steal? thou shalt not murder? Love thy neighbour as thyself? those beliefs aren't obscure. If we took away the status structure that human society cannot possibly survive without, you would find that pretty much everyone held those beliefs. I'm still saying that sacrificing babies to Ba'al and human hearts to the sun are negative and obscure ideas.

Destrauxe In reply to Will-of-the-spurr [2014-01-02 19:16:46 +0000 UTC]
Still not any more obscure than some of the things found within Christianity. You're allowed to have your own child stoned to death if they don't listen. If a woman is raped she is supposed to kill herself. How are these things any less obscure or negative than the things you've mentioned? They're not. There are 'good' sides and awful sides to every religion out there and in only mentioning the negative sides of other religions you're sounding pretty closed-minded.

Close-Minded? Well, if you choose to be close-minded, you are.
My family is Christian and Jewish. And none of us is close-minded. I don't believe in any religion...but, what makes me sad about most religions is that the people just use other people's faiths...or kill people just because they believe in a slightly "other god" or just use peoples' faith for their own good sake and propaganda, this makes me so sick, I just can't believe in any of those religions.

so closed minded.

Destrauxe In reply to LilinuuH [2014-01-02 18:41:22 +0000 UTC]
The bible does /not/ think men and women should be equal. Women were suposed to kill themselves if they got raped, they were stated several times to be 'property' and men are allowed to sell women according to the bible (one of the testaments, I don't recall which). If a woman raises her voice to a man she may be beaten. Children aren't /treated well/. If a child disobeys their parents the parents are allowed to request that the 'village elders' stone him/her to death.
Yes, loving others. Love everybody! Unless, of course, you're a homosexual, a woman, a POC, or somebody of another religion. So basically love every white christian heterosexual male. Yes?

I have yet to see a Christian who does not hate for their religion. It is a rather spiteful religion, and it's sad because the general message is 'love all' but there's so much hate for others in that religion.
'Yes, loving others. Love everybody! Unless, of course, you're a homosexual, a woman, a POC, or somebody of another religion. So basically love every white christian heterosexual male. Yes?'

lightbeginnings In reply to Destrauxe [2014-04-18 02:19:05 +0000 UTC]
Because we make mistakes. Christians try to follow Christ, but not all of us have mastered it. People should base Christianity off of how the Standard for Christians(The Bible) says they should act, no? We go by the New Testament, in case you plan on telling me we go and stone people, because we don't. Some Christians are Christian-ing wrong, but Christianity as it should be is beautiful.
