Description
A lovely and great character from one of Mercedes Lackey's novels. He's in a three book novel called Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise, and Magic's Price.He was such a wonderful character that I had to draw him. And I'm sure my mother would be satisfied as well, for she also adores him.
I drew a tear, though is somewhat hard to make out, for he is an extremely sensitive and emotional person. I wouldn't blame him either for all the tragedy and pain that is dealt upon him within the stories.
Only took a day, gladly. The shading and all wasn't too difficult. Just the hair. I hope it looks right on other monitors however. You know about my monitor problem. Screens too dark, so I don't know how they really look like.

I am a long time fan of the Valdemar novels (The Last Herald-Mage trilogy and the Tales of Darian/Owl books being particular favorites).
In this black and white drawing you perfectly captured Vanyel in a rare moment of vulnerability that he would later in the books show to very few out of fear of making targets out of those he cares about. It is beautifully done, I have yet to see anything better then this simple but poignant work.

ah i loved those books. They weren't the best written things ever but god I loved reading them so much. They were sad and happy and the last book; I cried cuz I just fell in love with the characters so deeply. Great drawing <3

Beautiful Vanyal. I just reread the Last Herald Mage trilogy for like the hundreth time lol. I couldn't help but cry at the end . . . I had so hoped the fates would of given him something more in life but as least he got 'Lyndol/Stef there in the end. Just so darn sad T_T

Beautiful! A wonderfully executed piece, dramatic and emotional and quite real, and. . .subtle. Dramatic and subtle can be hard to mix together well, but you manage it with what looks like ease. I completely envy your ability to do realism and pencil shading. It's just one of those pictures where a part of you almost expects to see the tear finish its trek down the character's face.
And the hair looks wonderful too. ^_^

Thanks. It took me awhile to do that. I am not used to, at all, doing head poses like that. And real life drawings bug me. I'm surprised it looks well.
