Well, let's see... the Allies bombed Cologne, killing three of her best friends and her little sister, she and her family were taken to labor camps for hiding a Jew (Benjamin), then her Dad gets taken to Auschwitz and dies, her mom is taken to Sobibor and dies, and Benjamin, the love of her life, dies the night before they're liberated from Dachau. The boy who's holding her in the pic is her best friend who was shipped off to fight in the war, and just returned to her. So yeah. :/
