Description

Here is the updated character reference for my interpretation of a male Greek Griffin for my series, Mythologies: Journey Through The Ancient World.

Note: I based the design of the head off the dinosaur; Protoceratops, because when people first discovered their skeletons, they thought they belonged to griffins.

Note 2: The Protoceratops head is based off a reference done by DrScottHartman  , and I based the colors off a gray crowned crane.

EDIT: Redesigned the wings.

I still prefer that the gryphons are more like dinosaurs, especially the deinonychosaurs, and I depict that they are not only more like raptors, but also I depict that the gryphons are jackal-sized, from 30-50cm tall between the shoulders and hips.

Well, to each, their own. I used Protoceratops because it is said their bones inspired the myth of the Griffins.

While I'm still scratching my head to figure out how people thought Protoceratops skulls were Griffin skulls, I gotta say that this looks quite interesting.

well, since they never seen a dinosaur and the protoceratops skull looks avian for someone unaware, iit was easy to mistake it without a living reference to compare it.

Thanks. I first heard of this when I looked into a fantasy book years ago and saw an illustration of a griffin with a Protoceratops head.
