Cuz there's never enough doodles about diving with prehistoric monsters In this case, the giant turtle Stupendemys and the colossal catfish Brachyplatysoma sp. which could grow up to 2.5 meters long, maybe more. (and yes, yes, I know about Piraiba) Both lived during the Miocene in a great lake or inner sea called Pebas, in what would become the Amazon basin, which was also the haunt of famous Purussaurus. Of course this means these guys got eaten in a regular basis.
Thanks to for letting me know about the giant catfish through one of his awesome drawings.

Is it just me or South America, Brazil and the surroundings to be more precise, have a knack for bigass reptiles?

Not that i complain, mind you

Awesome Hodari, and I feel much honored that you mention me in one of your artworks! This titanic turtle looks incredible, so does the ancient catfish(or 'ligerfish' should we call him?) and this somehow fulfills my fantasy of diving with one of those Stupendemys turtle in peace, not in the company of the colossal crocs that eat you haha.

No probs You are one of my favorite artists here, for sure!

Ligerfish, I like that Now I wish I had given it stripes rather than spots haha

You're one of my favorites too, by far. The spots look very unique on the fish! I should've said then the jaguarfish(still sounds grand and they were South America's own afterall)

que maravilla, seria genial nadar junto a la tortuguita Stupendemys, pero con ese bagre sobre crecido me parece  un poco riesgoso

I think you should do one of the African Crocodiles of the Cretaceous, with Rat-Croc, Duck-Croc, Boar-Croc & Pancake-Croc.

The modern Brachyplatystoma filamentosum ( Piraiba or Lau-Lau) can grow equally as large

Monster Fish Enthusiasts would most likely want to keep that colossal catfish if it was still alive today.

The genus actually is alive today

Venatorius In reply to HodariNundu [2016-07-04 23:16:19 +0000 UTC]

Yep I am aware of the genus surviving to the present day, being a tropical fish enthusiast myself hehe.I myself actually wanted to keep a member of the genus, particularly Brachyplatystoma tigrinum or the Brachplatysoma juruense, but unfortunately I don't have the money to buy one nor an aquarium big enough to fit such giants hehe.

Yeh... an outdoor pond would probably be better, as ling as you lived in the right place

Venatorius In reply to HodariNundu [2016-07-05 15:06:56 +0000 UTC]

Not to mention they also need excellent water conditions and filtration.
I happen to live in the right place because I live in a tropical country but I'm not sure I can afford to keep an outdoor pond for one of these beasties haha.

Indeed. Turtles seem to have had a bit of a tendency to evolve to huge sizes in rivers and seas alike.
