Description
Taken at Locomotion, Shildon, a branch of the National Railway Museum, York.
This is the prototype "Deltic" diesel-electric locomotive. This class of locomotive was the most powerful diesel-electric type to run on British Railways, with an output of 3,300 HP from 2 English Electric diesel engines.
People used to think that they were loud as the came into a station, but believe me, that was nothing compared with having to walk through the engine compartment. Especially if the loco was at or near full throttle.
