Wait, hold up... in the 26th panel... is that Krillin in the background encased in stone? Did you draw Krillin from Dragon Ball Z? He looks like he got Han-Solo'd.

I haven't used SnS enough to know all the ins and outs of the attack frames, but I'll soon rectify that. Switch Axe and Hunting Horn are up there as well.
Have you noticed any specific monsters that work well with SnS? It'll help with my research.

Primarily SnS work best on quick monsters because of the ability to get in and out quickly from a situation, and use items while the weapon is drawn. But most importantly is the outrageous amount of elemental damage that these weapons do. I haven't played too deeply into the newer games but big monsters Like the Lao Shan Lung, Khezu, Tigrex, Lagiacrus, Nargacuga, and even the Rathalos are particularly susceptible if you have the right element.
One big downside to the SnS though is that it is nearly useless underwater. Also monsters with extremely tough hides are also very difficult for an SnS user to defeat. The best example of that is the Gravios. It is so large that only rarely will you be able to reach the soft spot on its belly and you will find yourself bouncing off its legs far too often.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

* Nods * I've been taking Rathalos down with the only dragon element weapon in my second file. It's one of the rustshard weapons in the first it gains dragon element. (146 Raw and 410 element I think.) I also barely repelled the Jhen, but I might switch to an ice hammer to get a higher amount of damage. Dat golf-swing.
I can definitely tell that the SnS has that in-and-out capability. With the shield, it's no wonder it's a "beginner" weapon. It has an all-roundness that helps introduce newbies to the game. Plus using items without sheathing a weapon has benefits all its own.
SnS is definitely not the only one out of that boat. (Ha! Wordplay!)
* Nods vigorously * Now this is what I want to hear. I haven't really used many weapons outside of training in the older games, so I never got a SnS Vs. Grav match up. (I myself used hammers to BREAK things.) From the sound of things, matching weapons with monsters is a lot easier than running around and asking questions. But it helps to hear from people who have mains and know the finer details of what match ups prove difficult.
Aaaany way, what status element would you say preforms best with a SnS?
What skills do you find best fit a SnS set up as something you SHOULD have? Outside of elemental boosts of course. That's a staple for a element-dominate weapon.

For elemental Match-Up I would recommend Fire type. Don't get me wrong, the beauty of the SnS is that it can dominate every element, but fire is the easiest element to obtain. The really nice thing about SnS in my opinion is that while it is not the most damaging weapon (For damage it is actually the second worst just barely beating out the Bow) it is the best support weapon and in the hands of an expert they are more beneficial to a team of hunters than any other weapon. This is because they can do either elemental damage to soften up the monster before the big guns come in and obliterate it, or they can do status effect damage to hamper the monster. There are entire tactics of monster killing based around the status damage effects that an SnS can deal (Look up "Kirin Sleep Bombing" on Youtube)
I also want you to understand that the SnS is a weapon that can stand up on its own. I made it to G Rank almost entirely on my own using nothing but SnS, the only monster that I needed help with was the Akantor. Another thing that you may not know is that every weapon in the game has hidden features that you will not find in the game guides. It took time but I know a few of the SnS ones. My personal favourite is that the SnS loses Sharpness more slowly than any other weapon.
But anyway, back to your last question. You definitely want Swordsharpener. That is a staple ability that will help you in every stage of the game against every monster you face.
Sharpsword - for an even longer time in between sharpening
Sharpness+1 - I cannot stress how much easier this makes fighting monsters with tough hides.
Quick eating - it may seem like an underwhelming skill but it can make the difference between staying in the same area with your weapon drawn and leaving the area with your tail between your legs.
From monster to monster -quake resistance, hearing protection, and earplugs - these skills allow you to approach various monsters without being stopped, you can then combo them while they Roar, Stomp, and Flap uselessly.
Expert - This ability adds affinity to your weapon giving you a percentage chance to do critical hits.
Evade and Evade Distance Up - Both of these are useful for avoiding damage, A full set of Narga armor can help you get these.
an ability I would not put effort into getting is the Attack up Skill. The SnS and the DB both receive the smallest attack bonus possible from this ability.
Any other questions comments or concerns? I know a fair amount about other weapons as well, and I can recommend useful armour loadouts for all levels of hunting (Only about MHF2/MHFU) from HR1 to HR9.

Ah well, I guess I should have mentioned I have like 900+ hours in MH3U, and 600+ in MHFU(because of broken PSPs...), but the added detail would help out the less experienced should they decide to read through all these massive posts. But this conversation was very enlightening! I didn't know about the SnS' sharpness thing.
And there's the rub. I've maybe played 40 hours with other people, so I don't really have the teamwork experience to know what would really work well. It's also why I'm getting into this before MH4 comes out, so I could possibly tailor my game play to the rag-tag teams I'll be forming. "Everyone with GS/Hammer? Time for some DB!"
When it comes to Quick Eating, the fact you don't have to sheathe your weapon becomes all the more important. And then there's the attack thing, which means I should switch up some sets when I go Jhen hunting.
Ahhh the Narga stuff. I got everything but the Gunner's pants in MHFU. Despite downing 2 G-Rank Nargas by myself in 20 minutes dozens of times in a row. Damned heavenly scales!
(DB are also terrifying in conjugation with Narga stuff in MH3U. Lucent Narga in 13 minutes Solo. And that's just gemming for Poison Negate.)
I've got everything I need! Thanks! Since my primaries are GS and LS, I don't have the experience with SnS to notice some of the details you told me here.
