Description This is my first pic to post in about 1 1/2 years...

...This is from the AMAZING PS2 game "God of War", it is the hero Kratos.

Sorry for the qulity of the scan and clean up, it was done on an Bristol board (Blue Line)
at about 17.5in x 11.5in ( Thats the size of offical comic book pages BEFORE they go to print).
This WAS for a penciljack.com throwdown but i dont think its going to happen now...

recently played GoW2 and it kicks ass..
this series gives such an adrenaline rush you cant stop playing..

sorry for the late reply. Hatching is one of the best ways to learn gradient shading. But it can also bite you in the butt as it does distort textures.
Try to learn how to shade with different types of strokes...

OMG! awesome!
this one particular pic caught my attention; u see, my dad has been playing this 'god of war' game for quite a while now. dont get me wrong now, i like the game, but its getting pretty annoying...
i played it once, and, well... i sucked! i should've gotten quick reflexes by now from all of them crazy fast games... DARN IT! but seriously, i admitt it, i suck at it! i suppose that i should take some notes from my dad... but, all in all, the game rocks! and yes, im a girl, and yes, i put up with the game's short video clips... eww... and im not talking about the violence. i can deal wit the violence...
anyway, awesome job on the pic. i think that it rocks! your picture may not be as, well... bloody as the game is, but i will still enjoy it! great job on shading it, too!
now, here comes my crazy question: would u ever consider coloring it? if so, then it is going STRAIGHT into my faves! thanx!

mint. Wonderful sketch of Kratos, I like how you made the chaos blade handle into a dragon head. The dead bodies all around also give sense to Kratos' future might as Greece's god of war and well done with the Medusa head.

Hey Buddy,
Good to see you back - it's sad to here about your Muse. But like my sister said; 'no-one can be angry forever and it's probabley a good thing for Maynard needs'. However, I'm gonna miss 'em too.
I really like the drawing - sad to say I haven't picked up the game, though.
The detail you've added to this is storytelling to say the least. It seems to depict either, poiant moments in the game or perhaps a fanatasy of the character's abilities, be they good or bad. Either way death seems to follow him and yet he seems not to like it. The light breaking through the clouds suggests an end or at least a break in the weather however the lightning suggests a yin & yang mood. Is it chaos?
The chest thing that everyone has commented on is valid but I like your concept. It reminds me of the old Europian Medieval Lancer's armour in the 1560s - in that their shield shoulder(left shoulder) armour was folded over their breastplate to deflect any possible underarm artery damage. It restricted movement but was effective in strength.
The chains are interesting too. Great detail by the way!! - Without playing the game I don't know their significance, so here's a couple of guesses based on your artwork:
1. Their bound in obligation!?
2. OR, their a reminder to his origins and his fight for freedom!?

As to Medusa..... First off, she aint made of stone. Those snakes are limp. Now either he's expectional at stealth or that's one tuff mofo!!!!
There's a whole lotta of history in this piece of artwork. I'm seeing Roman, Greek, Gothic & Saxon Europian.... Is this an indication of time spent rocking the world in War or is it just some creative fanatasy(no diss intended).
Excellent piece man, Once again you have me blabbing away.... Only thing I'd suggest you do is have a go at his lats & neck. There's too much going on there.

2nd) you HAVE to play it!!!
I am a PC and then an Xbox man myself but i bought a PS@ jus for this and Gran Turismo4.

3rd) to tell you the truth all the insight you have about the details of the pic are good and i myself didnt see those things. The truth is the games' story is very shallow...they dont try to stay within the real history or time-frame. He is that Bad-Ass. the chains keep his blades bound to him cause he is a slave to Aries and they are dammned weapons...

thanks ! I have been playing ga,es since Coloecovision and the 2600 wood grain system, and i have to say that Kratos is THE most bad-ass hero/anti-hero in games...ever!

Not bad! I'd like to see (and this is just for what I like to see) some more confident, weighted lines that delineate the character more forcefully. This is a good rough, but it needs some clean, confident solid pencil lines to give it a solidity that approaches a final piece.

Damn I've been wanting to do a Kratos fan art.. yes! GOD OF WAR ROCKED! it lived up to its hype, thankfully. but it was a tad short but I hear rumors of another god of war so I wounder how they plain to do the next one.
