Description The First Soviet carbine chambered in an intermediate rifle cartridge, the SKS was produced from 1945-1970s. The SKS was issued to soviet troops late during World War 2 and fought along side the late in war produced RPD machine gun, both of which were chambered in the 7.62×39mm M43 cartridge. By the late 40s, the SKS became obsolete and replaced by the AK-47, yet other countries such as China were interested in the use of such a weapon. It would also serve communist troops in North Vietnam alongside it's AK successors. By 1970, the SKS was phased out of production yet remained a very popular rifle for civilians.

The SKS is a semi-automatic weapon with an all wood body complete with much of the metal parts are forged steel. It features a conventional gas operated system with a 10 round internal magazine system similar to that of many bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles used at the time. As stated before the rifle fires the 7.62×39mm M43 cartridge, one of the first to do so as well. It also comes complete with an 8 inch pig sticker bayonet similar to that used on the FG-42.
