Description
When every country had a bolt-action rifle, Italy answered that with the Carcano M1891. The Carcano is a derivative of the M1888 Commission Rifle made in Germany and served the Italians throughout World War 1 and then later, when they became a member of the Axis Powers in World War 2. By then, they used a round nose 6.5×52mm round, which, by the time of WW2, became obsolete, which is why a new variant, called the 91/38 was made with the newer 7.35×51mm Carcano. By the end of the war however, as the Allies closed in however, they had to regress back to the 6.5mm round, as newer resources were becoming scarce. By 1981, Italy decommissioned these rifles, but remained in service with other countries to this very day. Interestingly enough, the infamous Lee Harvey Oswald utilized a Carcano in his assassination of John F. Kennedy. His was a carbine variant with a Japanese made scope.

The original rifle is 1,285 mm (50.6 in) in length, with much more later variants like the carbine being 1,018 mm (40.1 in). The mass also varied, mostly in terms of how long the rifle was as well, ranging from 3.8 kg (8 lb 6 oz), to that of 3.4 kg (7.5 lb). It possessed a 6 round internal magazine, with the ability to use the en bloc style clip. Its ammo also varied, with initial ammo being the 6.5×52mm Carcano, but later rounds consisted of the 7.35×51mm Carcano, but later reverted back to the 6.5mm. Other ammos also include the 7.92×57mm Mauser, the 6.5×54mm Mannlicher–Schönauer and even the 6.4×50mm Arisaka.
