Epic story building in this shot! God Ole Ice wind Dale trilogy really brings back memories! BTW, How long did this one take for you to complete?

it took a while! I designed each character separately and saved them to their own file, then the background work to make it look like I needed, and finally the lighting. I did it over the course of about a week, probably about 10 hours of work and 5 hours of rendering time.

Now that's what I would love to see from beginning to end. We have to collab on something soon. Let's do some Dred work! XD.

that's a great name for a mountian range, is it from the game system, or your own creation?

The image is set in the Dungeons and Dragons setting of Faerun. The Spine of the World is a mountain range there. The setting was originally created by Ed Greenwood and usually what most people think of when they think of Dungeons and Dragons (assuming they don't think of six kids with magic weapons and a baby unicorn).

I do wish the Spine of the World was a bit bigger, given it's name. When you look at the map of Faerun, the Spine of the World is disappointingly small.

I only assume that the original mapmaker that named them didn't have a good grasp of the actual size of the continent.

You get the impression from some of the earlier Forgotten Realms novels that the writers had no real idea about the geography of Faerun.

A good comparison would be the World's Edge Mountains in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle world. That actually lives up to it's name and crosses vertically from north to south over two continents.

I suspect that the final shape of the realms was decided by committee

you know I'd forgotten all about that damn cartoon, my kids enjoyed it whole lot. What module is the Spine of the World from, I'm about twenty years behind on the whole AD&D thing, although four or five years ago I did pick up the basic books for the "new" edition of the time, including Ptolus, damn that's a detailed city. It was the first book I ever bought that cost a hundred bucks.

All of the stuff dealing with balders gate, waterdeep, drizzt do'Urden and icewind dale are set there. They were first introduced in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting boxed set IIRC

Forgotten Realms, slipped my mind, I guess I'm getting old

are you playing pre or post 4th ed

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

ILJackson In reply to asaenvolk [2011-12-14 15:41:05 +0000 UTC]

but my preference is actually still AD&D, 2nd Edition

asaenvolk In reply to ILJackson [2011-12-14 19:38:50 +0000 UTC]

see I started back in 1st ed, and yes I played 2nd ed all the way though, honestly I really liked 3.5, I do not like 4th ed, though I like Pathfinder!

As for the setting I like both befor and after the time of troubles, I just didn't like the last year or so of it before the "rest" and the big middle finger to the fan baise.

A lot of my angst about the Time of Troubles involved wild magic and Cyric. Cyric sucks as a god of evil. Bane...now that's an evil God. Cyric is what happens if a whiny emo gets deified. That's not the god of evil, that's the god of annoyance and tantrums. My four-year-old can manage that deific portfolio about as well as Cyric.

Cyric was pathetic, true, the wild magic bothered me less than the dead magic... wich could be too over used, and the shadow weave... gah the sorse of so much that went wrong.

when I play, I may use the 3.5 or 4.0 rulesets, but my personal world preference is always pre-Time of Troubles.

I dont like the 4.0 system, but if you liked 3.5 then pathfinder would be good for you.
