Description On an alien world a lineage of creatures evolved, following roughly the same evolutionary path it did on earth. From simple wormlike creatures with photosensitive skin patches they developed spines, bones, eyes, fins, complex respiratory and circulatory systems and jaws. Unlike their terrestrial analogs, they have two horizontal jaws, three eyes, three rows of gillslits and eventually six rows of side mounted fins

I was about to comment that, while a great idea, the extra body parts were somewhat unlikely...

Then I remembered what evolution has come up with on -this- planet, like sharks with buzz-saw teeth, snub-nosed monkeys, vampire squid...

I honestly shouldn't be surprised if someone discovered fossils of something like this were found a week from now, or 50 years ago.  (Natural history museums have a big back log of stuff.)

This looks just as much like an ontogeny as it does an evolutionary sequence.
