Description

Hooray for sketchy-goodness!

This is mainly just me playing around with poses for characters, but as I did it, it occurred to me that the stuff I was drawing could potentially work for a story that I thought up when I was younger... I mean, MUCH younger. I was 8.

It was a sort of magical adventure tale that took place in that mysterious age we all just call "ancient times". I had knights in it... but also people who were basically Vikings, and races of magic folk as well (elves, fae, and what-not). I was 8-years-old, OK, cut me some slack. Back then, coming up with stories was how I played games by myself; I would just go out in the woods and make-believe all sorts of crazy stuff. I used to watch the heck out of The Hobbit cartoon movie from the 70's, Flight of Dragons, The Last Unicorn, and The Princess and The Goblins, so that has something to do with my wild imagination and my fondness for stories like those.

In regards to this particular story... it definitely had influence from those movies, as well as a variety of others. As I re-imagine it even now, I feel like adding hints of Willow, and Eaters of the Dead. Good stuff, good times. I may throw in a little Conan the Barbarian, Legend, and Princess Bride for the heck of it.

They are color-coded because they don't have names yet... But the Hero is meant to be a brash, stubborn character. He's adventure-starved and eager to prove himself, but has no real battle experience. Nobody has given him a chance or depended on him before. He willingly jumps into danger, which is both brave and stupid. He's also a bit of a loud-mouth and has a short temper. When he meets the Warrior and the Mysterious One, he finally gets the chance to set out on a quest, though it proves more difficult than he thought it would be. Getting his butt kicked by the bad guys is at first a blow to his ego, but he later uses it as motivation to improve. A dose humility, a dash of patience, and he slowly becomes a leader. Going through ordeals and facing challenges that test his skills and his courage earn him his title as Hero of the story. He also develops romantic feelings for the Warrior, who fails to notice despite how incredibly un-subtle he is. He also is a little jealous of how much she worries and fusses over the Mysterious one (only because Mysterious is a bit fragile). This doesn't stop the Hero from wanting to protect him as well, and it also says something of his character; he's willing to fight for anyone if they need help. If he applies a little strategy to his talent with a sword, he's very likely to win.

The Warrior is a girl who is best summed up as the strong, silent type. She's lived as a savage, a slave, has worked as a body guard and assassin, and simply fought to stay alive. Recently, she's had a change of heart and wants to protect the innocent person she's supposed to deliver to their doom; the Mysterious One. This is what sets the story in motion, and why she's seeking allies for the first time. Normally, she's a loner. After spending time with her companions, she takes on a big-sister role. She doesn't seem like an affectionate person considering how fierce she is in battle, but she has a caring side. She knows the Hero can look after himself, and isn't as concerned for him as she is the Mysterious one. Nonetheless, she would be devastated if anything happened to any of her companions... and whoever hurt them would be devastated by her. There was once a time when she was a killer, and even though her conscience caught up with her, she is still fully capable of killing again. Don't let her small size fool you.

The Magic User is a visitor from a strange land who stumbles upon the three companions while they are under attack, and saves their lives with a spell. They are amazed and thrilled by this, and immediately ask her to join them. She agrees, mainly because she doesn't know much about this part of the world, but she comes to genuinely like her new friends. She also has problems of her own; after discovering she had magical abilities, she set out to find a person to teach her. This proved difficult, as magic users are a rarity. She thought she got lucky when she met a sorceress... who turned out to be a "magic vampire" with intentions of draining the Magic user of her powers and life force. This set her on a journey to escape, but in doing so, she improved her powers. She is a peaceful person who generally uses her magic for healing or defensive purposes, but as her bond with her friends grow, she herself becomes a fighter. She is gentle, sensitive, and also quite clever. She has a very thoughtful approach to a fight, and can read what her opponents next move might be. As a Magic User who is also scientifically minded, she is quite the force to be reasoned with (luckily, she's a sweetheart).

The Mentor is an older man who was once a powerful fighter and outlaw, but has since settled down and started a family. Although he's a pleasant, fun guy, he's still tough as nails. When the group of people on their quest come passing through and bringing trouble with them, he doesn't want anything to do with them. After seeing just how much help they need, he agrees to teach them a thing or two. He has quite a few years of experience under his belt, and has knowledge of weapons, hand-to-hand combat, and even myths, legends, and magic. Though most of them are willing to learn, the Hero clashes with him. The Mentor is patient, and after raising four girls and three boys, has learned how to deal with stubborn people. When the Mentor realizes that the group aren't just on the run from personal problems but are also dealing with an evil force that could potentially harm the entire world, he realizes they could use more than his words of wisdom and joins the journey. He may not be as good as he was in his younger years, but he's still a power-house, and is just as protective of his young friends as he is of his own children.

The Thief is a woman who spends her time in a city, stealing. Constantly. Her reasons for doing so seem to be a combination of debts she has to repay, trying to obtain enough to live a better life... and possibly kleptomania. After stealing from one too many people, the traveling group included, a mob from the city captures her. Although they don't appreciate being robbed, they think the death sentence on her head is a little extreme so  in return for their belongings, they help her escape from prison. The Mentor can tell that she has potential to be a good person, and the Warrior knows how hard it can be to survive on your own, so they extend her an offer to join them. She is reluctant at first, and the others are wary to trust her, but she proves to be a valuable addition. The Thief is stealthy, sneaky, and agile. She also brings chaos to a fight, and makes for a great distraction. She's a free-spirit who is also a bit self-centered, but being in a group grounds her. This in one way makes her feel trapped, so she tries to remain aloof, but she can't deny that her companions mean a lot to her. Her time as a Thief has made her excellent at picking locks, and she has an eye for small details.

The Mysterious One is... well... MYSTERIOUS. He appears to be a young man, but his age is unknown. Some people even question if he is in fact young... or a man. The Warrior was hired to take from one place to another; she would be paid upon delivery, and he would be killed. After spending time with him on the journey, she saw how childlike he was... and found she didn't have it in her anymore to let someone innocent die. After deviating from their original course, enemies soon gave chase, and this lead to the Warrior looking for help, and the eventual forming of the group. The Mysterious one is shy and socially awkward, due to his very lonely life up until the Warrior decided to rescue him. He considers her to be a surrogate mother, and comes to regard the rest of the companions as his family as well. It is eventually explained that he is the sole survivor of a magical race, and his life ties into a strange prophecy. Keeping him alive means keeping the world safe, but his friends would still protect him even if that weren't so. Although he isn't much of a fighter himself, he seems to have the ability to give others temporary gifts and powers that help them fight. Most of his life was spent being locked up with only death to look forward too; being on this journey with his companions, no matter how dangerous, is the most exciting and happy time of his life.

That was whole lot I wrote about NOTHING.

I'M SHUTTING UP NOW.

Oh, wow, thanks! When I was a kid, I played by myself outside a lot, so my "games" were all kinds of pretend stories. The story for this was once a game I played, but I actually only started adding stuff to it in the last couple of years. And hey, we were all crazy, silly, 8-year-olds. I feel like I wrote more than I drew, but I'm happy you like it

No worries ^-^ Yeah, I did that a lot too, only I didn't usually write them down, and so I've forgotten most of them now
