Ok, I'm not going to mention what I had to do to get this done. I'll leave it at saying there was definitely a ringer and I definitely went through it. I actually finished toning while having a pedicure done this afternoon.
Anyway, this is my entry for round 1 over at the SMOCT. It's my first fight scene ever, so do tell me what you think!
I thought having Eris tell the story rather than it happening in real time was a good and creative move for the first round. One, because nobody else has done it, and two, because at this stage, everyone's still a little iffy on everyone else's characters, so THIS way, any discrepancies can be accounted for by saying that she lied. In Xena's case, it's not exactly a stretch.
Plus, it gave me a chance to give Xena more dialog, and absolutely love scripting her. Her diction is so much fun for me.I hope you all notice the little tribute to Sailor Earth I added in! On the coffee table are two photographs which are actually the two lovely pieces *oasiswinds did of Sailor Earth and Sailor Eris.
They make such a killer little team!You may be wondering why, if Xena is a princess, she's running around not in her princess dress. My answer to this is that if I can't dress a princess in all kinds of fancy clothes, there simply isn't a point.
I also hope I don't get in trouble for shoe stealing. It didn't say anything in the rules about shoe stealing.
I think everything else ought to be self explanatory, but perhaps I'll think of a few more points when it's not the middle of the night.

Your art as always is exceptional. However, story wise seems a little frivolous and the cause of the fight, random. I understand that you might not have had enough time though

I also just realized that YOU might not have realized that a lot of the frivolity was intentional, as the story's coming from the mouth of a rather frivolous character who's intentionally making light of the scuffle.

I do like it! Just be a little careful on the difference of familiarity between you and your character and the reader and your character. I know I tend to gloss over my characters a lot because I get too familiar with them

What I meant to say is that you (the creator of Eris) would know Eris's character by default. You know exactly how she's like, what she would say and how she would react to situations. And this is awesome no doubt, and the same for every person who creates their characters.
As a reader however (me and other people), we have different understandings and assumptions of the character (what she does, reactions, etc.). So what I'm getting as is be careful of this difference in the level of familiarity. For example, I did not know (or remember) that one of Eris's characteristics would include glossing over why the fight started (which seemed important to me seeing as this is a tournament of stories). To me, at that point, the story lacked explanation. Only towards the end I see a bit of insight on her character of belittling hard situations, though it didn't carry much weight to what happened at the start. Perhaps more hints throughout the story might help... like a exaggerated offhand look as she started her story. You can tell a lot through expressions in the eyes
I apologise if this seems a harsh sort of commentary, but that did make a lot of difference to me. Of course the more fights we see, the more familiar we will be with Eris and that will help in garnering even more explosive situations and battles... ^^

SO amazing! The story is adorable and I love the that Eris is retelling the story! It makes you able to add fun quarks! LOVE IT.

Aww, thanks! It won't happen every time, so I'll need to find other ways of getting into the intricacies of Eris's personality in my other entries, provided I'm not knocked out. I was thinking of doing one entry entirely in rhyming couplets, which could get inside her head if I do it from her perspective. Other than that, I'll probably just need to give her more time alone with Dysnomia, who's the only person she's really comfortable with.

Wow. That was very unique and I'm really glad you decided to present the story this way. It was, I guess... inspiring? The details are excellent, even down to the minute and I was especially impressed with how you organized the space in your pages. There was so much in there with it rarely feeling cluttered and it all came out so beautifully. Good job and good luck!

Choosing to tell it from Eris' perspective is just ... perfect. Not only does it make the story freakin hilarious, but it gives such a definitive look at Eris' personality and oh my goodness, I love her. Love her, like, you don't even know. Framing the whole thing around those shoes... I giggle everytime I think about it.
