Description Found an old sketch in one of my books, cleaned it up. It's a little looser than I usually characterize, but I suppose it's got a sorta bouncy charm.

And I does love my cannons.

Why am I getting visions of Tank Girl when I look at this wonderfully awesome image? Love the pose and the gun totting grin.

I dunno, a lot of people said the same thing. I guess babes and big guns are generally evocative of Hewlitt's character.

Wow. That's nice. Her right leg makes her look bow-legged... Her breasts don't look parallel to her shoulders. Do you see it? It may just be because she bouncing around and so are her breasts, but, yeah. LOL! It's all good tho.

Gee I hope she wasn't actually aiming for the lightbulb itself in your logo. 'Cause if she was, she is a really horrible shot. Either way, I am pretty sure I would not want to meet her in a dark alley...or anywhere else for that matter. I might just upset her enough to resemble a "Holy" knight.

--Great line art. As always love your detail work.

god, she looks so happy at the prospect ofridling everything in site with bullets! the dog chain subtracdts from the somewhat static pose... that siad, the choise of pose is good. it goes well with her expression and you really get the feeling that she's having herself a ball. only thing i would say is that her feet seem a little on the small side.

For once, I was I loved a picture too much to just comment "The words minigun and chaingun are not interchangable". This pic is awesome. I love the gonzo look on her face. She looks like a roleplayer who just found the +5 Ridiculously Huge Infinite Minigun of Holy Smiting.

Inkthinker In reply to joiless [2005-10-28 16:40:11 +0000 UTC]

What exactly IS the difference, though? Does chaingun only refer to the six-barrel types? Does it need to be larger to qualify as chaingun?

Edjumicate me!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

joiless In reply to Inkthinker [2005-10-31 10:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Actually, a "minigun" can be used to refer to any form of electrically-driven rotary machinegun, such as the General Electric M-124 Six-Barreled Electric Gatling, also known informally as a "minigun" or "six-pack"; the bigger varities of motorized Gatling weapons are technically cannon, such as the Avenger 30mm Rotary Cannon. A chaingun is actually a very different weapon; usually a type of artillery piece. The term refers to the loading system which uses a mechanically-driven chain to rapidly load the shells.

The-more-you-know-ding.

Nah, nah, it's good... It prompted me to go wiki the topic, read up a little on the A-10's gun and then more on the helicopter-mounted GAU and the XM214. This one probaby resembles the tri-barreled M197 if anything, but a personal minigun is pretty much a fantasy item anyway, so details become a little moot.

Just the same, everything's better with proper references.

joiless In reply to Inkthinker [2005-11-01 19:04:21 +0000 UTC]

I actually researched some of the details of "Painless", the famous minigun from the movie "The Predator". The weapon itself, unloaded, would weigh roughly 90 pounds. 1,000 rounds, approximately enough for a single burst I think roughly one second in duration, would weigh about 100 pounds. Using 1980s technology, the truck batteries used to drive Painless for that single burst would weigh in total another 60 or so. And that's before calculating in the geometric increase of pressure generated at the barrel- a fancy way of saying the recoil would spin the shooter like a top.

But all the same... that ominous little motor purr just before the "virrrrr" of a screaming hail of ammunition cuts the target in half...

Inkthinker In reply to joiless [2005-11-01 23:11:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, reading about how the A-10's cannon actually slows the whole plane down and risks a stall if done during a hard turn was wacky. Someone reported that firing the tank-killer was like "slamming on the brakes", and while it's not possible to actually slow the plane down enough to stall (espescially since the engines automatically throttle up when you pull the trigger) it's still impressive that the plane's own weapon is powerful enough to affect the aircraft's forward momentum.

Supposedly, this is the same weapon that Vulcan Raven carries in Metal Gear Solid.

joiless In reply to Inkthinker [2005-11-03 04:52:00 +0000 UTC]

The 30mm GAU/8 Avenger is incredible. I saw a dismounted GAU/8 (that means it's been taken out of the A10) fired at a demonstration. It doesn't really make a machine gun noise, just sort of an incredibly loud ZIIIIIIP! and the target tank just seemed to turn inside out. It was amazing.

The weapon Vulcan Raven was carrying isn't big enough to be an Avenger; the weapon is seriously almost as long as the plane that carries it. The ammunition belt was also not large enough. Vulcan's, uh, Vulcan was supposed to be a 20mm cannon taken from a fighter jet of some kind, such as the Strike Eagle, Tomcat or Hornet.

I'd like to, but I probably won't (color it, that is). Someone else might pick up the ball.

The proportions here, along with the shapes and flow of the lines, gives a sense of motion and liveliness. The form feels free, and the character shape seems not to be constrained at all. There are times when you know that the overall physique of the character feels "boxed in" or rigid. None of that "boxed in" is here at all, feels very much like the first pass felt good and was the keeper. None of the lines create tangents, either within the character or with the background.

The proportions feel very correct; the placement of the facial features feels very natural at a quick glance [This is an area that I've obsessed over at times.]

It looks like color is about to be inserted at anytime. I can see those tones bringing out the bg slabs/wreckage with some nice pastel-yet-contrasty light/shadow and texture goodness. Highlights on the metal sheened portions of the gun would also score some points.
