This pendant uses a shattuckite cabochon as its centerpiece. Up until a few minutes ago, I thought shattuckite was a type of turquoise, but it looks like I was wrong. Shattuckite is actually a mineral that forms within malachite veins, and basically replaces malachite the same way that stone replaces dinosaur bones. To summarize, shattuckite is fossilized malachite
I wrapped the stone in a simple setting of sterling silver wire. The stone is held securely in with just the wire work that you see. (There are similar restraining wires on the back.)

I just found out that tiger's eye is also a pseudomorph, so I guess fossilized stones aren't all that uncommon.

I guess it was that I never thought of pseudomorphs as fossils. What's also funky is that brown tiger's eye is essentially rusted blue tiger's eye.

And red tiger's eye is heated rusted blue tiger's eye
Technically, fossils and petrified wood are pseudomorphs because their original material was replaced, but their structure is the same. Yay stones!
