Description Eastgate is one of the four main streets in the historical city centre of Chester. Starting at the famous Eastgate Clock, which is said to be the second most photographed clock in the country after the Big Ben, it continues all the way to the Chester Cross, where it's replaced by Watergate Street. Eastgate has some of the prettiest Tudor houses in Chester, both the elaborate Victorian ones and the genuine ones that inspired the XIXth century revival of this architectural style.

Second most photographed clock in the UK? Interesting, I should take a photo of it one day - just not to feel inferior seriously though, I like this shot a lot - the timbers of the house to the right look great - we have very few timber framed houses in Poland and I really miss them! Thank you for sharing!

If it is timber-framed houses that you like, you should visit North Germany. England may have a few Tudor houses here and there, especially in Cheshire, but North Germany is the king when it comes to this form of architecture (now that I think of it, Hesse is also not too shabby). I think you've already been to Hildesheim? It's one of the best, but there are towns entirely composed of genuine medieval timber-framed houses. Einbeck, Goslar and of course Quedlinburg spring to mind ;D

Both old and new, actually, but the beauty of it is that they blend together so seamlessly ;D
