Description Unusually for a modern English town, Stamford has a very high percentage of Christians. I'm not sure what the reason for this is, but I think I have a pretty good theory. The town is so full of gorgeous medieval churches that the locals must be tempted to go there every Sunday. For instance, in this picture, you can see whole three churches: All Saints' Church on the far left, the spire of St Mary's Church on the right and the tower of St John the Baptist Church a bit further right.

If gorgeous churches would be enough to lure people to become Christians, I think there would be more Christians in Europe than there are right now - Durham for one, should be a thoroughly Christian town... I just hope the beauty and serenity of medieval churches will at least inspire people to care for them, pay for their conservation and protect their unique spiritual atmosphere... thank you, as always, for sharing!

I've heard the people in Poland are a lot more conservative about their architectural heritage and preserve their historical buildings better than Germans do. For instance, I've heard from a guide that a Polish company was contracted to restore the Frankfurt Old Opera House, a gorgeous building. I wish the same attitude prevailed in Germany as well.
