A splendid stone town in north Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Chipping Campden is one of the most beautiful settlements in this region. Like many prominent towns of the Cotswolds, it first came to prominence thanks to wool trade and was home to Sir Baptist Hicks, one of the wealthiest wool merchants in the country. Its second golden age is connected to the Arts and Crafts movement, the members of which idealised romantic Middle Ages - it's not hard to see why so many of its members chose Chipping Campden as their residence! These days, tourism is the main source of income for Chipping Campden. But, surprisingly, it's not overcrowded even on the weekends, which makes it one of the best destinations in the Cotswolds in my eyes!
