Guys, this one took soo long. Phew! Can't tell you how glad I am to finally share it with you. Please enjoy this digital painting based on a local lake in Minneapolis.

Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

This is a digital painting based on scene I photographed one morning in Minneapolis. Lately the sunrises have been casting a dreamy orange glow across the sky. I figure it's because the light is reflected upward off the snow-covered ground. Anyway, as I woke up that morning, I could see from my window that there was a brilliant sunrise lighting up the lake, and decided to jump up there and then, brave the morning cold, and capture as much as I could. I saw a few groups of ducks, geese, and finally, this scene, a flock of geese taking off for their home with a background of trees whose tops were highlighted by a red-orange sun. Everything was still around me, except for the quiet sounds of nature and world slowly waking up.

The process for painting this took about 8 hours all together. It went through multiple phases: sketch, coloring, detailing, adjustments, and polishing. I wanted to place special emphasis on color and light, which I hope come across. All the work was done in PaintTool SAI using my Wacom Intuos drawing tablet. Enjoy.

I'm very proud of how this turned out. I think it captures the inner glow I feel from watching a sunrise. Please let me know what you think!
