Blood Alley is the name of the stretch of water between my island and the next. It was an area heavily used by smugglers in the past but the name may have a stronger connection to the red seaweed you can find in these waters.Related content

I like the contrast between the tree with pale lighting in the foreground, against the shadow of the tree beyond, and the blood-red setting sun.

I had a thought; the trees and the sun, the reflection of the sunset, these things are, to me, what really make this picture. The left-hand side, though, draws the eye, despite a lack of detail. Perhaps if you cropped away a third of the left side?
I hesitate to tell you how to do your work, but I've been thinking about this one a while, trying to figure out why it hit me as nothing special, at first. Only after I read a few comments did I look closely. I think if the sun and trees were closer to center, they would probably be a more obvious target for the eye, and to me, these elements are what's wonderful about this picture.
Anyway, I'm going to stop now. I always feel weird trying to give advice to someone who's obviously more skilled than I.

I really appreciate your comments and advice and I think you're right. It's not always easy to see why something doesn't work when you complete it yourself but to others it's often glaringly obvious. This is not one of my favourites - I need to clean up my gallery really and I think I'll pop this one into scraps.
