Description Also: a Dunmer, an Imperial, a Nord, and a Breton walk into a bar. It turns out they are all former prisoners.

Three years ago (man, I can't believe it has been for so long) when I drew Once A Prisoner, Always A Prisoner I remember there was discussion about how the beginnings of TES games keep escalating with every new release. What could possibly be worse than kneeling to a headman's block and being almost executed? The Elder Scrolls Online answers: how about being actually executed? And then imprisoned. In Oblivion. As a slave without a soul. I'm fairly sure the script writing team is still congratulating each other over that one...

I dunno about horrible DEATHS, per se, but I have an immortal character who'd been fed through an industrial meat grinder...
And of course thanks to aspects of her immortality (she hates the gods of her lands for doing this to her, by the by  s:  ehhehehh  ahem, moving on...) of course she's conscious for this mess.

Yeah
Pretty sure some of the stuff she's had to deal with/be put through/have put through her, she hates me...  '~';;;;

They pretty much ruined it with the expansions who has new and less fatal starts
Still starting the original main quest will kill you

What if for Elder Scrolls 6, you have your head chopped off, get stuck in Vaermina's Quagmire, so you have to go through all of these painstakingly gory puzzles that involve you having to murder others and chop off some of your own limbs in that reality but in the real reality you have all your limbs but you still feel the pain when your in the dreamscape and cut off your limbs. Then eventually when you finally make it out of the dreamscape you're hunted by some cannibals who will tear you limb from limb and then eat them while you slowly bleed out only to have to do it all again. So you'll have to kill them to keep yourself from being devoured by them. And even after all that, the truth of it all was that you're still in the dreamscape so you have to kill Vaermina just to get out of there.

echometroid1623 [2016-08-30 20:59:13 +0000 UTC]

Yep. That last one definitely wins. But I've got a worse one:

Devoured by demons, then resurrected without a soul or a heart as a homunculus, and the whole game is just you trying to find your way to a peaceful afterlife where you can spend eternity- but if you die before then you become a demon and live out eternity in suffering and anguish and have to start a whole new file just to make it to a peaceful afterlife because whatever happens at the beginning of the game (survive first dungeon or die during it) determines the plot for the rest of the game.

You gotta admit, that is a bit worse. Character from idea that I just made up wins this round.

In "Planescape: Torment" you start in a morgue. After you died. Again. And after you've lost your memories. Again. And you definitely look like it happened many-many times.
And one of the possible ways out is to pretend to be a zombie.

The elder scroll 6 Summer set isles
Your character starts off as a prisoner of a thalmor ruled Tamriel. The player must watch 20 solid minutes of cut scenes showing how your character is magically tortured for a decade until he ( orshe) is half daedra. Only being set free when The modern equivalent of the stormclocks sacks the facility and begins to burn it to the ground.

Considering it was Molag Bal's plane of oblivion,  I am sure there was rape involved at some point... and Bethesda's insistence on starting the games as a prisoner just became kinky. (And does Elder Scrolls Online really count? Because it SUCKED.)

Tes VI: Falling on the battlefield crippled and wounded down to 1hp you are carried to be eaten by something big and evil when tha blades or their equivalents arrive. They save you and as your first task you have to carve your way through and pull out an arrow from your greaves (knee). You have amnesia, but the main target to kill is you...

The Eternal Chamion (or Talin, if you prefer) went from Guard Captain to prisoner, and was immediately assisted in escape by the ghost of a battlemage.  To be fair, though, that prison is one of the hardest dungeons in the series.

I still don't know exactly what happened to the Hero of Daggerfall.  One moment, you're on a boat getting shipwrecked.  Suddenly, you're deep underground about ten or thirty miles inland.  What gives, right?

One thing this makes me wonder about.  The other constant thing is that every TES hero is, or becomes, a member of the Blades.  I suppose the Blades don't exist during ESO, right?
