Love the uniqueness! But I don’t quite get the tail curving left or right and the things on it’s back, can you explain?

The tail is supposed to be a slide~and as for the things on its back...in fact most of its body are based on some rock decorations I remembered seeing on some playgrounds~but unfortunately I hadn't found a proper reference so they're pretty much just memories~
