I drew this for the art community on Live Journal called Art Memes when the theme was Lancelot.After a few different (and crappy) ideas were sketched out, I decided to go with more of a typical Arthurian Lancelot. So here he is, being all angsty and whatnot. This was sketched in pencil and then painted in Photoshop with my tablet. The painting was kept relatively loose mainly because I was pressed for time. I like the looser look for this though, I think it works with the overall mood of the picture.
Lancelot was an angsty guy. You would be too, if you were loyal to your king but were hopelessly in love with his wife. Lancelot was totally the emo kid of Camelot.

Just happened to stumble across Lance here almost 2 years after the fact, but that doesn't diminish how wonderfully realized he is!
There isn't nearly enough Arthurian related art here. And I must say, as far as Lancelot is concerned here on DA, this takes the cake!

The only movie I can think of where Lancelot was a "main" character is First Knight. It's not that good of a movie. Richard Gere was Lancelot, which is just bad.

I totally love Lancelot to pieces! Have you read Mists of Avalon? The books have a very interesting take on Lancelot and Gwenhwyvar. This is suitably dark and brooding and also very handsome and rugged. The dark under his eyes is a great touch! He's likely lost more than one night of sleep in worrying his affair would be discovered, not to mention pining for his beloved.
Oh, and the ghostly images of King and Queen in the background.... *thumbs up* rounds off the pic perfectly.
