Description This is a super, super big file. Oh boy. I just warned you.

Here you guys go! Many people voted for a digital hair coloring tutorial for my chibis to be released! So here it is !

The coloring style I use can be recreated with many drawing/editing programs. I mainly use SAI and Photoshop.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post them below! I will copy and paste any common ones in this artist comment area.

Textures used as examples are from `cloaks ! Be sure to visit her!

I hope this serves useful!

Another hopefully useful tutorial:
Traditional skin coloring (copics)

Have a great day!

i've opened up a image of line art that my friend did and i want to color it but every time i try to select something it selects everything. i know i can draw was i want to be selected and i don't wanna trace over the drawing. can you tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Most likely your friend didn't close the line art line :/
You'll have to set the layer to multiply
Then create a new layer on top (normal) and color this way (it takes longer)

If your friend is okay with it, you can edit the line art to make sure it's "closed"

the lines are closed though and i tried that still doesn't work. i guess i'm just gonna have to re do it or color in what i want selected which sucks either way >.<

EternallyEthereal [2011-07-14 02:35:06 +0000 UTC]

H-How do you use textures in PS??? I've never been able to find them QnQ

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

jadecillustrations In reply to EternallyEthereal [2011-07-14 02:36:39 +0000 UTC]

Do you mean find the textures themselves or apply them?

I look for the textures online then save them.
> Open them up in PS (in another file if you want)
> Copy
> Create a new layer on your drawing
> Paste the texture (that you copied) on that new layer
> Change the layer mode to overlay

EternallyEthereal In reply to jadecillustrations [2011-07-14 02:39:36 +0000 UTC]

AH! I was asking about how to apply them to my drawing. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EASY EXPLANATION <333333333
