Alphonse Elric from Full Metal Alchemist. He easily became my favorite character, he's so cute and such a little trooper.

I drew both forms of him here holding his keyblade, a lot like how I drew both forms of Kiba holding his, because I don't love one form over the other. I did need to find a reference for the armor though, and i know its still not completely accurate.

The keychain is the blood seal that binds his soul to the armor. i was going to make it the state-alchemist symbol when inspiration struck. I think this way is so much more meaningful, because the seal (keychain and blade) is what's connecting armor form Alphonse with human form Alphonse in this picture. Great parallel, I dug it.

Just wait til you watch Brotherhood, you'll probably want to redo this with Al's "correct" human design (since it's based more on the original manga look).

The heartblade series is like a bunch of little lovenotes. This is the Al I fell in love with, his design may change, I may grow to love the new design more, but I'm not gonna go back and edit the lovenote. I'll draw something new instead

I might admit that I've had the whole "what if" scenario in my head. But, FMA is a liiiittle to dark for a disney game, even if it has FF characters. Damn good picture though.

the heartblade series is standalone, the characters I've drawn with Keyblades for the series were never actually meant to cross into Kingdom Hearts... and believe me, there are darker characters than Alphonse in the series.

Although you're probably commenting on the fact that FMA is owned by Square, in which case you're absolutely right. Even if they have the rights, FMA doesn't feel right for a kingdom hearts game. It's got far too much subtext and not enough stupid fun to weave into the hyper-zipper-belted-heart-shaped tapestry of KH

I believe you got the armor quite accurate! If you really wanted to draw them standing apart from one another, I have a Alphonse figurine that's very very accurate (it's from the SquareEnix PlayArts line they did for Fullmetal Alchemist a few years ago. Very limited run, unlike their FF stuff.)

That figure sounds cool ^^ I'm sure I could find refs online though if I looked hard enough. There aren't a lot of shots of his back, so I had to turn to cosplayers for the back of his helmet, but I covered most of his butt up with... well... little him.

He is rather fun! (lol <3 articulation) supposedly his chest plate is removeable, but the flaw of SquareEnix's toys is that removeable parts often refuse to remove... (like Axel's hand broke off instead of swapping off D: ) so I haven't been able to remove Alphonse's chest plate to reveal the supposed 'kitty' inside.
