Description So a while back, Warner Bros. announced that they were planning a live action/CGI Christmas movie starring Marvin the Martian. This blew my mind for three reasons - one, WB has tried and failed twice in the past to "revive" the Looney Tunes through live action/animated combination projects; two, the idea of the Looney Tunes in CGI repulses me; and three, the project is being headed by Dimension Films, the same heavy-handed heartstring-tuggers behind P.S. I Love You and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies.

Honestly, what else could I do but depict Marvin's revenge against his boneheaded employers? I'm beginning to suspect that nobody in the Warner Bros. studio knows what to do with the Looney Tunes anymore. (It seems simple enough to me - JUST PUT THEM BACK ON TV ALREADY!)

Well a Christmas movie starring Marvin doesn't sound inherently like a bad idea.

but when you talk about who was going to do it, and how . . . it does sound like shit.

and the reason all the Looney Toons revivals have failed was the writing was shit and the voice actors were crummy.

Look at the original looney toons, it had great writers, it was smart and well animated. And frankly, in a lot of ways I prefer traditional animation to CGI

CGI is a great medium, but it doesn't fit the Looney Tunes. Those Road Runner cartoons from 2010 are all the proof I need.

I actually had a nightmare of sorts last night, where this Marvin movie got finished and released to theaters, and it was just as awful as I'd imagined. Fortunately, I looked it up this morning and it's apparently no longer being made, which is a huge relief.

I love CGI, but it has its limits.

That's a bad nightmare. The thing with traditional animation is that it just seems to have their fluidity that CGI lacks. It's like when the figures move, their shapes change subtly, but in cGI they're set in stone

jbwarner86 In reply to Master-of-the-Boot [2012-04-07 16:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Well, I wouldn't say that. Pixar, for instance, has really mastered the art of fluid CGI animation (just look at their short "Presto" for a great example - it feels a lot like a hand-drawn Looney Tunes cartoon). But those Road Runner shorts just felt awkward. I lamented when I first saw them that they expended so much energy on rendering each individual strand of fur on the Coyote and each individual feather on the Road Runner and making humongous photo-realistic dynamite explosions, yet they completely forgot to make the cartoons funny.

True, Pixar does really well with their work. It also helps that most of their works have great plots like Toy Story and the Incredibles. At least in my view.

Well at least the CGI guys did their stuff, even if the writers dropped the ball.

I loved Looney Tunes: Back in Action! But, I will agree with you here. When I first heard about this movie I was skeptical about it. Then I heard Mike Myers was gonna do the voice of Marvin. Now I plan to skip it. Seriously, aside from the first two Shrek movies, Mike Myers just doesn't belong in children's films (see The Cat in The Hat). Just goes to show you that Hollywood is running out of ideas. I mean, now they're making movies based on board games. FUCKING BOARD GAMES!

Hey, board game movies can work - 25 years ago, they made a movie out of Clue, and it was hilarious. (Of course, it also benefited from having Tim Curry, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, etc.)

I think they are at odds with putting it on tv. The jokes are so dated in the classic episodes and so much censoring would be demanded now.

Though I heard they were thinking about putting Looney Tunes back on TV because they were shocked how many people didn't know Bugs Bunny's name

they SHOULD put them on TV again. I mean, there's nothign wrong with that. I'm only 13 and I still love the Tooney Tunes cartoons.

If they remade the layout of the shows a bit to appeal to the new century WITHOUT going into Pokemon and all that other jazz, then there's what they do with Looney Tunes.

I think they should make a show staring Marvin...or at least some Chuck Jones style new episodes of LT.

I love the uphanded humor in this. Very effective and almost carries that style that made these cartoons so fantastic. They (the looney tunes) were very effective with their slapstick style of subliminal satire. I love the way they poked fun of different thing through cartoons that still remain timeless with their good humor. This piece of work takes that style of old and paints the bullseye right on the deserving target. Great work!

It just figures. I hate all this stupid CGI crap. They keep trying to use that to replace traditional cartooning and they shouldn't do that. Good lord, I seriously hope they do not actually make the Loony Toons CGI.
