Description So yeah, I bought the Watchmen director's cut DVD yesterday! And now that I've seen this film the way Zack Snyder always wanted it to be seen, and since I'm currently re-reading the graphic novel front-to-back, I've been drawing a lot more of the characters.

I understand it was Jackie Earle Haley's birthday a few weeks ago, and that inspired me into drawing this. Now, I'm not as big a Rorschach fan as some others (especially not the fangirls...yeesh), but I did come up with this idea that I thought was pretty funny. Rorschach's birthday (according to the graphic novel) was back in March, but I didn't really know the characters too well back then. Consider this my belated way of celebrating.

I love this! But I always hated Laurie's tobacco pipe from the comic. Makes it look like she's smoking meth.

That's funny stuff dood. I re-read Watchmen last semester, and discovered I didn't like it as much the second time around. Oh well.

Lol this picture is neat. Although I admit the movie had a bunch of flaws for me, I like the graphic novel better than the film.

Like you wouldn't believe. Just search DA for "Rorschach" - look on their works, ye mighty, and despair.

I wonder is Rorschach would even know how do use let alone want to. I get the feeling that he could be living in a future like Star Trek and he'd still be trying to do it the old fashioned way.

jbwarner86 In reply to Havek-san [2009-07-24 00:53:26 +0000 UTC]

I think he'd find some good use for it. I got the idea from the movie - Nite Owl uses a laser shooter in the fight scene at Karnak, when Ozymandias throws his chair at him.

RORSHACH EFF TEA DOUBLE YOU!!!!!!!! yeah, i'm a Rorshach fan too. he reminds me of myself in so many ways. he's just a poor misunderstood boy with no friends and no one to understand him. just like me!

i didn't see the movie in the theaters, but i wish i had. my bother saw it, though. but when i asked him about it, he said he didn't remember any of it. i want the director's cut soooo bad!!!!! have you played the videogame? it's pretty awsome.

I watched a YouTube playthrough of part one of "The End is Nigh", but it looks kind of boring to me - just a lot of running around and beating people up. Maybe part two is better.

Hunting-Stew In reply to jbwarner86 [2009-07-24 22:27:16 +0000 UTC]

i see... ya don't like beat 'em ups, huh? well, the whole game is actually like that. i'm kind of stuck on one part. it's all about Rorshach and Nite Owl's mission to stop Underboss. it was mentioned briefly in the book.

jbwarner86 In reply to Hunting-Stew [2009-07-25 02:47:42 +0000 UTC]

I think a Watchmen video game could work, but "The End is Nigh" doesn't take very good advantage of the possibilities. I'd like to see a game where you can play as various heroes throughout the ages - Nite Owl I in 1939 New York, Silk Spectre I in the 1940s, Ozymandias in the 1960s, the Comedian in 1971 Vietnam, Silk Spectre II in her training days, Rorschach on the Blair Roche case in 1975, Nite Owl II cleaning up the police strike riot in 1977...that'd be an awesome game, I think. And, y'know, offering more challenges exclusive to the characters - like maybe Rorschach's got to outrun the police, Nite Owl II has to chase down a bad guy in the owlship, stuff like that.

Heck, there could even be a hidden cheat code that lets you play a level as Dr. Manhattan, making you invincible.

holy cow! i totally never would have thought of that! i wish you could have brought that up to Deadline Games (they made The End is Nigh) but unfortunately, they're out of business. maybe someone else will pick it up and you could tell them about it.

Oh yeah, He'll deeeeeeeefinately not know about it till then~!
Though I can see as Rorschach liked as a kind of badass (while at the same time, pointing out the style of characters Steve Ditko wrote without any collaborations) I'm still not sure how he can be loved by many a fangirls in that manner. Maybe I'm too out of touch with people...

Somewhat shockingly, I watched the film first knowing NOTHING about the story, but I loved it so much that I had to check out the graphic novel. Can't wait for the DVD now .

Didja see the director's cut yet? It's three hours well spent, believe me!

JayFosgitt In reply to jbwarner86 [2009-07-23 03:15:31 +0000 UTC]

I'm debating if I should buy the director's cut or wait 'til Christmas when they include the "Black Freighter" animation to the cut. Do you know if that December release will have all the same footage as this recent director's cut?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jbwarner86 In reply to JayFosgitt [2009-07-23 12:51:03 +0000 UTC]

It should, but it'll also have some new scenes with the two Bernies that serve as wraparounds for the Black Freighter stuff. The real question is which version of the movie you think you'll like best. The director's cut is three hours and it works very well even without the Black Freighter (and we still see little Bernie reading it, so it's not like it's gone completely), but the ultimate cut is three-and-a-half hours and seems like it'd get slowed down significantly.

Of course, you could get both...

Ha, that's great! I always liked how everybody kept wondering who Rorschach was under the mask, and how they kept encountering the one person they least suspected

Oh, I can't wait to get that Director's Cut- I've heard good things about it so far, and it's makin' me all the more stoked. I wish I had the Absolute Watchmen edition, too.

I got the BluRay yesterday, looks swank (still can't get over the intro credit sequence).

I still feel a bit silly I didn't catch Rorschach's identity as the sign-carrying street walker when I first saw it in theatures. When I caught up in the book the next day it hit me in the face. I wonder if this created even more awkward situations than the one above.
