Description Another quick shot, [link] a little further along. This is a quick shot, I wasn't trying to make the opals look good, just wanted them in the shot. The spider was carved by Martha I cut the opals and carved out the back of the spider to accommodate the opal. These gems were cut from Australian Mintabie rough.
I now have to fit the spider to the large web

It looks great so far, but do you plan to set the spider where you have it at the moment? -it'd be a shame to cover all the wonderful web work you've done, in my very humble opinion.

The small web work was the wonderful stuff All of the good stuff will still be viewable from certain angles. The spider will actually show more of the ring than it does here, it still needs to be trimmed up a little

This spider isn't done yet A lot of wax still has to be removed. After the spider is cast the legs will be positioned so it looks like it's naturally sitting on the web.

that's absolutely amazing. do you carve the wax manually or use a flexishaft or hot pen-carver thingy or something? i must get around to buying a flexishaft... also should probably work with opals more often, seeing as i live in australia and all!

I used all of the above. Mostly manual carving though. Wax pen for repairs and Foredom for removing large areas of wax
