Oh yeah!  Went to SIL's for the day, camped out that night, back to SILs for breakfast & lunch and to see other rellies that hadn't made it on the 25th, then home again to our kitties.  Hubby & I made out like bandits, and everyone seemed pleased with what we gave them, so it's all good.

How was yours?

That sounds pretty awesome - by camped out, do you mean actually went out camping/slept outdoors?  Most people are frankly too wimpy for winter camping (even though the weather in a lot of places is shockingly mild now)

Haha, awesome, glad you're enjoying your loot!  Our Christmas was pretty humble, but really awesome - due to wonderful perseverance and sneakiness on my husband's part, Santa managed to visit our place and dropped off some surprise presents for me, and I got some unexpected presents from friends overseas as well.  We spent all day playing card games and watching Christmas movies together, and made what was probably one of the best Christmas dinners we've ever had :b  Finally tried traditional roast potatoes with goose fat, and it totally won me over :b and I managed to come up with a brussels sprout recipe that Casey not only doesn't dislike, but actually kind of enjoys!

Camped out as in, put up a tent, had an air mattress to sleep on, a 'honey bucket' for Nature Calls late at night, and lots of blankets.  Technically it's Summer here, but that night it got down to 10° C and rained a lot.  We stayed dry and comfy in the tent.

Oh my, sounds like you two had a great Christmas!  Awesome!  Brussel sprouts that are edible?  I don't believe it.  I've always considered them to be ammo for food fights, but that's about it.   (My hubby likes them, I can't stand the smell or the taste.)

Hah, that's awesome   lol, a "chilly" 10C, eh?  Our British winter nights are warmer than your Australian summer nights :S  But yeah, I love rain when camping, provided it's not all day and the tent isn't leaky

*chuckles*  Brussels sprouts have a bitter chemical in them, same as in broccoli (but less in those), that makes a lot of people hate them, while other people are lacking the chemical receptor to taste it, so they think it tastes fine.  Weirdly enough, though, I can taste the bitterness, and so can Casey.  However, I always sorta liked brussels sprouts so long as you don't just boil them, if only 'cause they're traditional Christmas things that everyone loves to hate - they're cheap, and somehow I made them edible enough for Casey to like (!!) - he's a notorious veggie hater XD  Trick was, he loves pepper and citrus, so it had tons of pepper in it, along with onion, garlic and sausage, along with orange zest and lime juice.  I even slipped some matchstick carrots in there with them, and he liked that, too XD  Even suggested, "Hey, we should make this regularly, so we make sure we get enough vegetables," which surprised me o_O  The only veggies he likes generally are celery sticks with peanut butter, carrot sticks, and British mushy peas :b  Oh, and spinach salad, so long as you put a lot of other non-veggie things in it XD

Well, sometimes the temp stays up in the 20s - and muggy humid, which makes it difficult to sleep.  But overall, I like the weather here, even if it does tend to be long-sleeve weather for me most of the year.

That's interesting about the Brussel sprouts.  I like broccoli, and many other veggies.  I even like cilantro/coriander leaves, which my hubby says tastes like soap to him.  (Apparently there are certain taste receptors for that as well.)   Yay for finding a veggie dish that Casey is willing to have often!

Yeah, we had that happen last summer back in BC :S  It was awful =/

lol, the way our Spanish roommate keeps the heaters going, it's STILL not long-sleeve weather.  I can sleep in the buff with no covers on and still be comfortable :b

Don't really get why they're common symbols of the holiday season?

ZackWriter23 In reply to jocarra [2015-12-26 16:27:27 +0000 UTC]

when i think of Christmas i think of...Santa, the Raindeers, Gingerbread Men, Jesus' birth, a Snowman, Christmas Trees, Santa...did i already say Santa? well it's worth saying again. lol

jocarra In reply to ZackWriter23 [2015-12-26 17:31:26 +0000 UTC]

There are deeper/more complicated reasons on why those various things are symbols of Christmas, but the easiest and simplest in this case is that it's reminiscent of the nativity scene, in which domestic and herd animals have always been part of.  I just made it non-religious so it would have appeal to non-Christians as well   Plus there are pine trees, bright lights, shiny "star of Bethlehem" Christmas stars, a snowman, and Rudolph/Santa in the background, so you can't say it's not Christmassy
