Even as rigidly censored as Science Ninja Team:Gatchaman (Gawd, who comes up with these titles?!) was in its Battle of the Planets incarnation, I distinctly remember more than one panty-shot of Princess (Jun the Swan to you purists.
) making through to my very American television screen.I must see the uncensored version one day. You know, to know the real story, and see the original artist's true intent all all that.

I would hazard a guess that panty-flashes from Jun were common in the Japanese incarnation. One of the 2 endings she gets in the game "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom" has a direct reference from her stodgy partner (The leader, "Ken, the Eagle" in Japan) about how everyone can see her panties. Tho the viewer can't in the angle of the picture shown, that simple reference likely means it was a pretty common bit of fan-service in the show...

Truth be told, the story was pretty stereotypical IIRC (and we europeans got the uncersored version)
Pretty much Mazinger Z but with Power Ranger heroes.
Then again, I watched this years ago and have a foggy memory of it.

We saw it in the US back in 1978. It was marketed as Battle of the Planets to exploit the Star Wars craze. Since it was a full decade and a half before Power Rangers made over to these shores, it was unbelievable fresh and new to us.
But they did edit out all the cool violence.
Ironic, I was thinking of how back in the 1970's they repackage anime to appeal to Star Wars fans, while nowadays, the folks at Lucasfilm give Anakin Skywalker a spunky teenage sidekick to appeal to anime fans.
Hmmm, I wonder exactly when Darth Vader murders Ahsoka Tano? He betrays and kills all the Jedi right? Or are the going to retcon that too.

Actually in the Gatchaman anime the made in the late 90's..you even see her named during her transformation.

Great work! I love that dynamic angle and the character of those lines. Truly a fine representation of the science ninja team member.
I've watched a goodly portion of the original uncensored Japanese version (subbed), and it is really cool- well worth a look.
