Description So seven years ago, I drew a picture based on the incredibly awesome ending of Mega Man 3 and for years I REALLY wanted to polish it. While I didn't have the original pic on my newest laptop, that didn't stop me from recapturing that nostalgia... so ladies and gentlemen I give you: "Who is he...?", the lineart-less remake: IN LIVING COLOUR!!!

The name I gave it was a reference to Proto Man's ending in Mega Man: The Power Battle, the arcade game.

"Proto Man... who is he?

Proto Man, Dr. Light's first ever built robot just before completion, he ran away and vanished. He appears before Mega Man from time to time and mysteriously disappears.

Is he friend or foe? Where is he off to?

Nobody knows."

This took about a week to re-draft and polish... honestly, I really enjoy drawing this, especially since I tackled it at the time of Mega Man's debut in the Smash Bros games. (Metallic updated design for the win~!!) Proto Man's image in the sky was the only thing that was troublesome to draw, due to that blasted scarf and white designs on the helmet, but I'm really happy with the results!

I really hope y'all enjoy this!

Did I seriously refer to him as Rockman all the time back then?? Good lord, the Weeaboo-enza was heavy those years...

Oh wow~ what a nice improvement on your drawing <3 This is a really great example of how your skills evolved: lovely lighting, characters drawn well and colors+shades come together to create some nice results.

Aww, thanks Maggie! I'm really glad that my skills have improved!

I hope I can do something like this again, it was actually kind of fun, no matter how long it took.

Every now and then their is a picture that you don't care how long it takes or how hard it is, you just really like drawing it

Really cool! The concept of capturing nostalgia from old NES/SNES games and turning it into fanart sounds interesting... Perhaps I'll have a go at it myself one of these days. c:

Thanks, Hikari! I'm really glad you enjoyed the pic and the concept!

You really should try that! Maybe tackle a scene from Mother 2, or one of the endings of Kid Icarus! (Namely Pit becoming captain of Palutena's fleet.)

No problemo friendo!

XD Kid Icarus was what I was thinking of (or Of Myths and Monsters but I don't think that ending has the right kind of nostalgia value), but I haven't done any MOTHER 2 fanart in a long time despite me enjoying my playthroughs of all three in the series... Ohhhhhh so many decisions, it's so difficult to choose! D:

Well in that case, definitely work on a scene in Mother 2, since it's been a while since you've touched the game. Maybe try Ness meeting Franklin for the first time or when Paula and Ness first meet in the shack in Happy-Happy Village.

Ohh that's true! (Hmm, is Franklin the Frank Fly character you fight in Onett? οΌˆοΌΎοΌΎοΌ›οΌ‰) I was actually thinking of the final battle since that was the part of the game that had the biggest impact on me. I think it was the first time I had ever actually felt afraid during a boss fight (and not from fear of getting a game over), since there was so much during that battle I couldn't comprehend like the strange dialogue or the creepy atmosphere. Or the credits when you hear "Smiles and Tears" which got me really emotional (especially at that part "I miss you").

Oh yes! Frank the Fly! Geez, I keep calling him Franklin. Maybe it's because I spiritually connect him and the Franklin Badge? I dunno. Either way, those two scenes seem to always jump the first thing in my mind, usually due to how pumped I was to show the Sharks who's boss or rescue a friend you never knew about until now.

Yes! The final battle is really scary... practically gut-wrenching!

I'd say tackle the scene that makes you really inspired to draw! If it's the final farewell or the final battle, go for it!

Man, I can't watch that ending without thinking of the full length version of that whistle. Especially the piano blues version that was in the arcade games.

The attention to detail on this is beautiful - you don't even have to be a Mega Man fan to appreciate that. I especially love the work done on the tree and the mottled grass.

Aww, thanks Gemma! It's good to know that this art can be appreciated by both fans and non-fans alike!

Making the tree and the mountains was extremely fun! Grass was pretty tough, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

I've seen this image long enough to know how old it is.

I've seen it grow from a baby line-art piece into a full grown adult image. Β Very good job ^u^

And thanks for watching my art after all these years... wow, has it really been seven years since I've been on this site??
