Description The lush Antarctic island paradise is inhabited by a plethora of fascinating animals. Most of them are birds but there are also some mammals such as bats and some reptiles…

-This medium-sized shark species roams the shallow coastal waters in search of smaller marine animals (mostly invertebrates)

-Anatidae are one of the major bird families endemic to the Antarctic rainforest. The specimen depicted above is one of the smaller species but some grow up to be 3 meters tall.

-Not all penguin species took to the oceans when the ice melted. Some -like the crowned forest penguin- stayed on the melting ice until they had solid ground beneath their feet. Most of these terrestrial penguins are rather small kiwi-like creatures.

So most of Antarctica became a rain forest, and Australia became a steppe?

How did reptiles get there? Extreme rafting? I'd really like to see a warm future Antarctica more than any other evolutionary scenario; it would be like a gigantic New Zealand.

They’re lizards that got there on driftwood

Geckos are very successful. There is a population of solely female geckos that reproduce parthenocenetic.

I’m planning to focus a lot on this warm Antarctica...
