Description Oil paints, 18x24 inches.

This has changed so much since I first started it that the composition has been lost, and some things look a little awkward. Still, I'm a lot happier with this than I have been with most of my other work recently... I'm starting to see something that more closely resembles the images I have in my mind. I'm still far away, but on the right path.

The nymph is based loosely on myself and the piece in general is deeply personal, so that's all I'll say about that.

I love all of your oilpaintings, but this one really stands out to me!! Maybe it's the emotional layer you are talking about above; I can't really tell what it is but I can really feel there's a deeper meaning to this painting. I hope that doesn't sound too weird... It's only because it looks really special to me! It's beautiful!

Absolutely beautiful. Seriously. The texture (seems like a swampy area?) is excellent against the smooth, consistent sweep of color of the nymph's skin and hair. I love her pensive expression.. a very very thoughtful piece. Makes you gaze, cocking your head, for a while.

This is simply beautiful, but I am very interested in what she is holding. Is it a moss-covered stone? I also like the fact that one cannot exactly tell whether she is emerging from mossy ground or an algae-covered pond.

Kaelycea In reply to sphinxmuse [2007-08-26 22:37:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you She was originally holding onto a branch when I first painted the background. I decided I didn't like the background anymore (it was my second attempt and I felt it was even more boring than my first) and out of frustration I simply covered everything in thousands of little dots of paint.

I worked over those, drew parts out, added more dots and so on. Some things got lost and some parts don't seem to work anymore, but I quite like that in a strange way.
