My favorite bird in the world is the Golden Eagle. They are juuuusssttt such BEAUTIFUL creatures! I mean, bald eagles are all well and good too, but something about a golden eagle just radiates power and pride...
If I was an animagus, it would so be a golden eagle (as I show in one picture further back in my gallery). Ahh....such lovely animals...Anyway, here's a quick realism of one that I did of one on black paper with prismacolor colored pencils.
I kind-of like how it turned out...I didn't add a bg because it looked better without one 
. Two references were used (one for pose and colors, the other for additional colors).Picture is © to me, Kalico, 2005

you have to know i'm a fan of critizism. i feel that comments which incorporate solely words like astounding, super, phew, wow, wonderfull, phantastic and so on couldn't help to develop the skills. they are fine to read, they are chicken soup for the soul of the artist; but not more.
critique (regardless if the artist feels that it applies or not) implies hints to make it better, next time....
english isn't my first language, so excuse me if there are any misleading phrases or false words. i hope, the meaning is clear. so....
critique (imho, of course): the whole head (esp. the eye) is just perfect, the body falls behind. this is especcially true for the wings. here you have resigned to draw each single feather, you have drawn colored arcs instead.... imho, if you want to get rid of details in nearing the border of the pic, you should do it by a slow decay of colors AND details to a more and more pale (in this case black) appearance.
nevertheless you have drawn a very good eagle! keep it up!

My god. I saw the thumbnail and I thought it was a stuffed bird... I mean, like, not a stuffed animal, you know, but a taxiderm of a golden eagle.
I agree with you that golden eagles are the most regal and majestic of all the birds; they're so peerless and beautiful. This picture serves them well; I love all of the glints and the shading and how every feather is detailed in. Gotta love it, babe. I'll have to try colored pencils on black paper sometime.
