Berchem (Belgium), August 1st 2017

"Tranche 2" PCC-tram 7137 (formerly 2137) of Belgian public transport company De Lijn passes through the majestuous Cogels-Osylei.

Wearing the basic, bland De Lijn livery with the addition of some smaller publicitary decals, Tram 7137 was delivered to the M.I.V.A., the Antwerp public transport company, on December 11th 1974, and absorbed into the fleet of the Flemish public transport company De Lijn on its formation in 1991.

While not yet as implicitly threatened as the PCC 'Gen 1' trams, the 105 La Brugeoise et Nivelles/ACEC built 'Gen 2' trams are none the less slated for withdrawal from use in the coming few years, with the last expected to be retired in 2023. Despite their age - the first 'Gen 2' PCC cars entered service in January 1966 - all 105 PCC 'Gen 2' trams are currently still in service. Unlike their older counterparts, the 'Gen 2' trams are equiped with couplers, allowing them to run in pairs.
