Description
Mara Jade is a woman who is well aware of life's possibilities. Mara Jade was born on Coruscant. Not long after her birth, her father had to travel to Tattooine on business. Not wanting to be away from his wife and newborn daughter, he brought his family with him, planning to take them on a family vacation after his business on Tattooine was concluded. However, during their voyage to Tattooine, their family star cruiser suffered a catastrophic engine failure while entering the planet's atmosphere. The incident caused their ship to crash deep in the Tusken Raider's territory. A Tusken Raider hunting party saw the crash and came to investigate, suspecting outsiders might be intruding into their lands. The only survivor was baby Mara Jade. One of the Tusken Raiders was Jedi Master A'Sharad Hett, a Jedi Master ordered by Yoda to live among Tattooine's infamous "Sand People". Mara Jade was strong in the Force, and it was this strong Force connection that guided Hett to the baby girl. Hett saw that the crash had orphaned the girl, and thus he took her in, and raised her as his adopted daughter. Following the traditions of the Tusken Raiders, he trained her in the Jedi Arts. Mara Jade always knew she was different from the other Tusken Raiders. Her surrogate father did not hold her to the Tusken Traditions, because from the day he first found her, he knew her destiny never lay with the Tusken Raiders. Therefore, he never required her to adhere to them. Though the other Sand People didn't think too highly of a girl living among them with her face showing and areas of her skin showing, but they tolerated it because she was A'Sharad Hett's apprentice, and they understood that he lived among them at the request of the Jedi Order, and benefited from his presence among them. A'Sharad Hett used his Force talents to help them in hunting. Hett influenced his tribe of Sand People to actually maintain more or less amiable relations with the Moisture Farmers living on the fringes of their territory. Hett often traded the rare treasures and curiosities that his tribesmen found in the deep deserts to the Moisture Farmers in exchange for meager amounts of water or some vegetables that the moisture farmers often grow in hydroponic gardens. Occasionally, Hett would travel to one of the local communities to trade for other goods to benefit his tribe. The end result was a Tusken Tribe that was more tolerant of outsiders among them. This made for a more or less nurturing environment for Mara Jade to grow up in. Growing up, Mara Jade took to her training in the Jedi Arts with single-minded determination. She knew she was not one of the Sand People, and was often reminded by her surrogate father that her destiny did not lie with the Sand People. Because she did not adopt their traditional robes, she became quite adept at using her Force Powers to survive in the harsh deserts of Tattooine. As she matured, Mara Jade soon found herself trusted to travel to the communities nearest to her tribe's territories. The fact that she did not wear the traditional robes of the Sand People, and the fact that she was a lovely young woman often made her trade errands far easier for her than they had been for Hett. It was during one such errand that Mara Jade acquired the parts to build her lightsaber. Being a Jedi Padawan trained by a Jedi Master who was living in exile, Hett did not have the luxury of sending her on a pilgrimage to Illum. Kyber crystals were rare before the Clone Wars. After the Clone Wars, the Jedi Order was forced into hiding. For Jedi, like Hett, who lived in secret at Yoda's orders had to obtain crystals through other means. For Hett, it meant sending Mara Jade to scour the junk shops and commodities traders for a kyber crystal. She found one in a small shop in Anchorhead. The merchant sold the crystals and semiprecious stones that were easily obtained in Tattooine's rockier territories. Jade found the kyber crystal mixed in a bin of common quarts crystals. She convinced the merchant to sell her the crystal without telling him that it was an extremely valuable Kyber Crystal. The other components for her lightsaber were more easily obtained from junk shops and electronics emporiums. She constructed her lightsaber on the way back to her tribe's camp.

Mara Jade's sleep was often plagued with Force dreams. Most of these dreams were visions of her living a life serving Palpatine as an Emperor's Hand, often assassinating his enemies. It was these dreams that introduced her to Luke Skywalker. She knew of him from her dreams. Therefore, when she and her tribesmen witness the crash of Anakin Skywalker's starship Twilight. Anakin Skywalker and his son, Luke, were on a desperate mission to aid the Rebel Alliance in obtaining the technical schematics of the Death Star. The Twilight had taken some damage in escaping Imperial Forces, and the best that Anakin could manage was a more or less controlled crash. Unlike Mara Jade's parents, Anakin and Luke Skywalker easily survived the crash and their astro-droid R2-D2 got out with only a few scratches and a dent or two. However, the Twilight was beyond repair, and what's worse, the Empire had been in hot pursuit. They knew where the Twilight had crashed. Anakin, Luke, and Artoo knew they had to get out of the Twilight and as far away as they could before the stormtroopers arrived. Unfortunately, Mara Jade's hunting party arrived before they could leave. Luke and Anakin ignited their lightsabers and prepared for a fight. Mara Jade warned her tribesmen back, and ignited her own purple lightsaber, which surprised Luke and Anakin. Anakin attempted to reason with her but she attacked them. The lightsaber duel was brief, and ultimately interrupted by A'Sharad Hett, who had sensed Anakin and Luke through the Force, and came riding out on his bantha. It was only his shouted commands that convinced Mara Jade to stay her hand. She was mortified to learn that she had attacked fellow Jedi. Anakin quickly explained their dire situation to Hett. Hett, who was always prepared to help fellow Jedi disappear commanded Mara Jade and his tribesmen to take the two Jedi and the droid back to their camp, while he and the rest of their tribesmen perpetrated a hoax for the stormtroopers. They liberally splashed blood about the Twilight, and shot at the ship several times with their rifles, then rode their banthas around the ship for good measure. By the time stormtroopers came to investigate the crash, they were thoroughly convinced that Anakin and Luke had been slaughtered by the infamous Tusken Raiders, and their droid likely stolen by Jawas, some of whom had inadvertently aided Hett's tribe by beginning to strip the Twilight of its parts. Meanwhile, at the tribe's camp, Anakin more thoroughly explained to Hett the situation with the Rebel Alliance and the Death Star plans. Hett agreed to put the two Jedi and their droid up in their camp for a few days, but suggested that they travel to one of the spaceports to find passage off world. Then, Hett changed Mara Jade's life forever. Hett reminded Anakin of a blood oath that the tribe owed Anakin. Curious Luke asked what Hett was talking about, and was regaled with a tale of how Hett's tribe had abducted and killed Anakin's mother during Hett's early days living with the tribe. Hett's presence among them in those early days had caused them to respect the Jedi Knights, and when they learned that they had killed a Jedi's mother, they swore a blood oath to Anakin, vowing to one day recompense him for the loss of his mother. Hett felt that the day had come, and offered his surrogate daughter to Anakin in exchange for him holding the blood oath fulfilled. Anakin sensed that Mara Jade's destiny was closely linked with his son's destiny, and thus agreed. To the Tusken Raiders, Hett was offering his daughter to Anakin as a mate for Luke, not an uncommon practice among Sand People tribes to peacefully settle disputes. They insisted that the tribe's shaman perform a marriage ceremony before they would consider the blood oath fulfilled. Though Luke was shocked to unexpectedly be wed to a girl he had only just met, at his father's insistence chose to accept his sudden bride. After that night, Mara Jade accompanied her new husband and father-in-law on the rest of their adventure, which led them to Mos Eisley, and a certain pair of reckless smugglers named Han Solo and Chewbacca. Together with the two smugglers, they eventually reached the Rebel Alliance where Anakin, Luke, and Mara Jade flew starfighters with the Rebel pilots on a dangerous mission to destroy the Death Star.

Mara Jade was accepted into the Jedi Order by Yoda, who also sensed that her destiny lay with Luke. She insisted on traveling with her husband and father-in-law on their many adventures, which would take her from the frozen world of Hoth to the cloudy skies of Bespin to the endless city of Coruscant and even back to Tattooine on a mission to force Jabba the Hutt to lift the bounty off Han Solo, but would ultimately result in the vile gangster's death. Mara Jade would even lead the Loyalist Clones of the 501st Legion into battle on Endor to aid the Rebel Alliance in destroying the Second Death Star. During that battle, Mara Jade would stand with Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Obi-Wan Kenobi in fighting General Grievous and his Sith Stalkers, an all-out lightsaber fight that would result in the death of General Grievous himself.

Though the Battle of Endor was hardly the end of Palpatine's regime, it did result in the restoration of the Jedi Order to their rightful place as guardians of peace and justice in the Empire. Following that the Battle of Endor, Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker decided it was time they began having children. Mara Jade's first pregnancy resulted in her giving birth to identical twin girls, Rey and Kira Skywalker, both of whom would grow up to become great Jedi in their own right. They would soon be joined by their brother Ben Skywalker, who would be born a year and a half later. Mara Jade would eventually become a Jedi Master, though she knew that Palpatine's regime would eventually return, as her dreams, which had sometimes warned her of dangers, would begin warning her of a dark and terrible military force calling itself "The First Order", which would be led by a terrible shadowy figure wholly shrouded in the Dark Side of the Force.
