Description For TAFE, we were asked to do a book cover, I'd just finished The Tomorrow Series by John Marsden (which coincidentally I found out was being turned into a movie when I was half way though) and absolutely LOVED it, so naturally I jumped at the chance to design a cover for an all-7-books-in-one book


Seriously guys you HAVE to read these books!


Anyway I still have to add all the text and I'll post that version later, but for now, here's the artwork. It scanned TERRIBLY and I'm morning the loss of all the colour subtleties oh well!

EDIT: I was lucky enough to MEET John Marsden recently! LOVELY man, I showed him this picture, which he really seemed to like (he also signed my copy of TWTWB!!!)

I got a set of seven books from the Tomorrow series a few days ago and I am quite anxious to start reading 'em, but I have to finish other book I'm on right now. And I didn't know the movie was out already, I won't watch it until I have read the book, books are almost always many times better.

I don't really know how to say this but it looks really 'Australian'. It's awesome. Can you believe they're finally releasing a movie now? I wonder what they'll do for the enemies accents. I read them all a few years ago, but I remember them like tommorow

Im so glad you think so! I think my fav part of this was thta I got to paint what I KNOW, rather than what I guess. I love things set here in Australia

also, anything being published in a book on on a cover, I'm not allowed to post here till it's published, or I'm not allowed to say it's being published if it is There's a few contracts I've signed in that department, sadly this isnt one of them

Awesome I've read these books about a million times- I'm going to the premiere on Sunday actually of the movie so it better be good. I definitely agree people HAVE TO read them! THis is great work by the way. It makes a pretty awesome cover.

I've only read the first to (I did years ago) and then couldn't find the rest to read them. But I will renew my search! I'd like to actually finish the series. This is awesome, I love the explosion in the background and the ferris wheel silhouetted on it. Very nice.

This is one of my favourite books EVER. As old kids/young teenagers, when we were old enough to be let loose on our own (with beer, machetes, sausages and tinned peaches) groups of us would go camping out at a place called Hell's Gates, and we'd always be worried about being invaded. We had a contingency plan and everything because we'd all read the books so much the series was beyond in pieces, and we were so angry about the movie not portraying Ellie properly.

This is one of the most amazing artwork of Tomorrow, When the War Began, if not the best one. I love that they're hiding from the enemy, I'd have preferred this as the official poster for the movie, shame that they're promoting it as an action flick when it's an amazing drama story. Oh well. I'm just delighted that John Marsden LOVES the movie adaption, can't wait to see it!

I own all three. I didn't find them terrible. They didn't have as much action as the Tomorrow series. I liked them a lot, but they might not be for everyone who liked the Tomorrow series. It depends on which factors of the Tomorrow series you liked and which you didn't.
I think the movie might be terrible. How do you feel about the way it's being done - namely the casting?

Fair enough, I pretty much liked all aspects of the series...except possibly the introduction of the kids... then again I'm not a huge child person

Hmmm I'm being positive about the movie, the trailer looks pretty good to me, but I'm hoping its not going to be one of those trailers that has all the good stuff in the trailer and everything else is shite. I HATE the logo thing, its kills me! And I'm not a fan of the posters either. The casting of Ellie looks pretty close to Ellie in my head bit she was on Neighbours so I'm iffy... BUT I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt!! POSITIVE THINKING

Fi looks nothing how I imagined her, she's not dainty looking at all :S

Yeah casting-wise I'm not sure about Ellie because she looks too skinny for my imagination of Ellie but that's not a deal-breaker if they pull everything else off without too many hitches.

If you don't like the kids the Ellie Chronicles may not grab you because Gavin features in it so much, but I'd recommend getting the first one from the library and giving it a go. Just because I practically worship almost everything John Marsden writes.

Also, I was so excited to see Tomorrow fan art that I didn't actually mention the art is absolutely beautiful. I love the colors you used and the scene is gorgeous.

I ended up buying The Ellie Chronicles Ive read the first one, and I really enjoyed it. I am keeping the others for a rainy day (Im not willing to have the whole story over yet )
