I, eh.. uh... *blush*
Thank you for the critique, I really don't know what to say...
Concerning the five stars in originality... Well, I do think that it's pretty original, but since painting it I've realised that it's still not unique. The general "mythic critter masquerading as part of the landscape" theme by itself isn't that rare, and I've even seen one or two wood dragons similar to this one. (My dad looks through a lot of art on LJ, he likes to find stuff, sometimes decades or centuries old, and jokingly accuse them of plagiarising me. XD) There's even one on Deviantart, maybe you've seen it before: [link]
Cheers, and thanks for the critique again!

welcome!
but still, yours looks completely different in my opinion, and youre still very talented.
i gave you 5 out of 5 for originality because the way you came up with it is your idea. and it looks awesome!
your welcome!

Hello again, folks, this is your friendly internet robot sitting on a lovely rolling hill with a (Looks behind)--AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
Okay, folks, lemme start off with this. As far as I'm conerned, this piece, by a.deviantart.net/avatars/k/a/k… " alt=" " title="Kaytara"/> is just genious. It combines a wonderful grasp of technique and theory with a wonderful love of the fantastic, which I love.
I'm sure we're all familiar with the famed hill from the Nightmare Before Christmas, a strange thing with a tip curling in a downward spiral. Compositionally, this calls back that same hill, though the great earthen dragon's head swoops upward instead, toward the sun, and toward our small figure lost in his own thoughts.
Technique used here is evidentally a speed paint with a special emphasis on grass textures. While it would undoubtedly be well within the artist's ability to paint individual baldes of grass, this would be somewhat inefficient, especially for such a texturally ambitious project.
Overall, this piece shows a great deal of skill combined with a love of the form. I think we painters of the fantastic can all learn something from this.

Gah, that's what I miss when not checking my inbox more thoroughly. O_O
Thank you for taking the time to write this critique. It's funny - I watched and loved The Nightmare Before Christmas, but didn't think of the similarities until you mentioned them.
I honestly don't know what to say... I'm humbled that you liked it so much!
Again, thanks! ^^

Oh, these are wonderful colours of sunset mirrored by a wonderful scene. I really like the idea of this tree-horned dragon with a back full of moss and lawn. Reminds me a little of old Morla from the neverending story. I hope it won't mind elf sitting on his back. Elf and plants go well usually.
