I love the rugged look of this work, the muddy colors, the unchiseled details and the paint applied in thick coats. Most impressive!

nice work! the style of painting, rather 'modelling' is stunning.
the reference shots by are also really interesting, no wonder why you chose it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KeizerClimax In reply to crh [2010-05-25 13:22:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
It was indeed some kind of modelling: applying pure paint with a hard brush. Coincidence is the clue factor in the creation process of the painting
Exatcly, I fully agree with the artist's exceptional reference picture

My favorite thing about this is the paint handling and brushwork and teh activity and movement of the brushstrokes. IT all makes it seem so much creepier as if the title wasn't enough to creep me out. Well done

KeizerClimax In reply to K-mar [2010-05-21 08:31:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot for your thoughtful comment .
It was exactly the purpose to play with the elment 'matter' in this painting . The painting is composed out of different layers of thick paint and intermediar scraping. In fact this could be an endless procedure....
I guess if I continue this way, the effect could become even stronger.

nice job but i dont like the work name !

KeizerClimax In reply to cey-cey [2010-05-19 20:53:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank you
Concenring the name: I attempted to create a figure out of the material in a way the man would appear to be build out of clay. In a second tought - when I came onto your page - I understand the choosen title be not be the most appropriate one.
Of course there's nothing whatsoever to offend anyone. But if you'd prefer to have the title changed, I'll be prepared to do it .

I particularly like the texture of the beard. It really does look like dirty, matted hair.

Thanks a lot . Glad you like it!
It was my attempt to induce a lot of structure just by playing with the paint

Adflictus [2010-05-19 18:19:00 +0000 UTC]

Though the strokes are rough there is an enormous ammount of details and textures, the depth is very well indicated, especially on the right side of the face and his arm.
I just had to look at the original photo, that is quite some feeling you managed to capture.

KeizerClimax In reply to Adflictus [2010-05-20 08:15:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you once more, my friend, for your support and your thoughtful comment !
I choose to emphasize the structure of the original photo a bit more. Therefor the hard brush strokes and the strong light & dark contrast in some areas...

this is really interesting. esp the brushstrokes and the roughness. it fits the subject very well

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KeizerClimax In reply to Minzile [2010-05-19 18:05:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot . I wanted to create some structure, some depth by means of the paint (matter); not by painting shadows & highlights only.

yess...you fixed it. you gave him more soul..the picture seems to be a statue what is very cool because it is a real man. but you made a living stonehuman in paint

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KeizerClimax In reply to SuSeKeN [2010-05-19 18:06:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot, Suzi. A stoneman - a man created from stone...that's exactly the idea behind the painting

SuSeKeN [2010-05-19 17:40:38 +0000 UTC]

jea friend, that is a very very very good artwork. you put the color in a bit expressiv way..so the man has that character, but in an combination with surreal flair. i just have to look on the basic picture. but i think you have just hit the soul of it.great!
