. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

So I purchased the Winsor & Newton Half set of watercolours last week and finally got around to playing with them! I absolutely love watercolours, but at the same time am so terrified by the prospect of them. Once a mistake, always a mistake (or rather, permanent). That aspect terrifies me!

So here I am, with something a little simple, I'm hoping to explore and do more adventurous watercolours soon to come, but hope this goes alright~

I'm awesome at creating mistakes since I tend going around them and improvising. Awesome collective insights though, that I just collected. My head is smoldering. d( '.').

There's something honestly awesome about 'improvised mistakes though', just the unapologetic honesty and rawness yknow!

I absolutely love the contrast between the simplicity of the lines and the complex texture of the hair. Absolutely amazing, though yet disturbing. Or maybe, it's even better because of it!

Sadly, I have no friends (in reality) who paint or draw. Which sucks because I don't really have anyone to discuss art with in person

TheDivineMissM-94 In reply to kelogsloops [2014-11-17 13:53:16 +0000 UTC]

I actually meant friends here online, because I too am a sad little person with no friends irl who do art xD
It does suck like that. I think only one of my friends on here is even in the same country as me...
Have you tried art classes? Something like life drawing classes could be cool, or even an art critique group. Practice art plus meet people who like art in the process, pure win
If you're from a city that has things like that, that is. I'm from a small town so, no art classes here D:

kelogsloops In reply to TheDivineMissM-94 [2014-11-18 13:48:14 +0000 UTC]

YEAH! How much does it suck with no irl art friends
I considerd art classes, but honestly, I don't know if there are any around here, or where to look at least. it's not so popular, art, I suppose down here.

Maybe in the city, but I'm no too keen on popping an hour away evryday and an hour back Wish there were classes locally

TheDivineMissM-94 In reply to kelogsloops [2014-11-25 08:27:28 +0000 UTC]

It really does, I'm constantly saying something that I don't realise is connected to art and my friends just look at me like 'there she goes again!' D: I only have one friend that I've met on here who's from Australia and she's 6 hours away from me still.
I wondered where you were from and checked your page, woops creeper alert sorry xD I didn't realise you were an Aussie!! It really isn't popular here at all. I'm lucky enough that there's been a few prevalent artists from my hometown, but it's still not popular and people can still weird about it. :/
What about art exhibits? I've never been to one before, hoping to go to my first next January if I can somehow bum a lift off someone xD I'm not sure where they'd advertise to in the city, probably the newspaper but event halls and stuff too?? I don't really know... It could be something to look into though?

kelogsloops In reply to TheDivineMissM-94 [2014-12-01 15:21:06 +0000 UTC]

HAHAHAHAHAHA 'there she goes talking about art again' <-- that legit is my life. Sigh.

But in a strange way, because I have no art friends, I suppress that side of me in public so people are always shocked that I draw. cause usually i'm crazy and wild haha.

AUSSIES!!! HEHE. But I do know what you mean. The art scene in Aus isn't as big as like UK/US, similarly with all the arts/music industries. Which sucks, and especially on deviantart because it's not as prevalent. Sucks we're so underappreciated

I'd love to go to art exhibits too!!!! But I have no idea where to start, or who to go with, remember, having no art friends and all :/

TheDivineMissM-94 In reply to kelogsloops [2014-12-13 02:37:08 +0000 UTC]

Yes, literally every subject concerning arts; music, acting, creating of any kind, just have such small communities compared to the rest of the world. Do you get a lot of negative reactions when you tell people you're an artist? Art is more of a hobby for me, writing is what I really want to do and when I tell people that they're like, 'You mean journalism?' and when I say no they're like 'And what kind of real job are you going to get?' I HATE that term, 'real job' I just fell like saying yeah good for you go that's great and walking away xD It's gotten to the point where I don't really tell anyone what I want to do when they ask anymore.

Art festivals are a good place to start. I'm not sure what state you're in, I'm assuming you're near Sydney/Melbourne? I'm probably really wrong woops sorry bout that Start with a google search for art festivals or exhibits near your town/closest city.
Keep an eye out in newspapers too, and flyers on event centres. Wine vineyards and centres are usually popular with exhibits, at least in Adelaide they are. Pretty much any place that has function rooms and a bar xD

As for someone to go with, you don't know, maybe one of your friends won't mind tagging along. I have a friend who doesn't make art herself but is really keen on going to exhibits. If not, well it's the perfect place to meet other artists, so go stag and hope for the best xD

YES!!!!! Someone once told me, 'oh, so you have no idea what you're doing with life?' after I told them i'm an artist -_-.

I KNOW RIGHT! "real job' that word makes me SO angry. Chasing your passion is what's a  "REAL" job!!!!
I understand exactly how you feel. I don't bother telling people about my real dreams, why i choose not to study art etc. It's just so annoyign and frustrating when someone doesnt understand the situation and everything and you have to explain yourself and validate yourself as a person and validate your passion and hobbies to be considered 'real'. sigh.

You actually see it so similarly to me it's crazy

I'm Melbourne!! Hahaha. I have always kept an eye out for events, btu I never find cool ones It really is underground and low key, art exhibits and all Thing is, I dont think we even do art festivals haha.

Like, I'd love to brign a friend along, but I don't want to be bothersome yknow? I mean i have someone on mind, but she just wont be on the same page as me

ARGH I HATE THAT ONE SO MUCH
they're like, oh so you don't know what to do so you're just wasting your time huh? NO. GO AWAY YOU SAD MISERABLE LITTLE PERSON AND LET ME LIVE HOW I WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I hate the term 'real job'  so much. Like what is their definition of a real job? Wasting your life away doing something you hate? Life is way too short to be doing that and forgetting your dreams. No thank you.
You just said it perfectly, validation. It's like we have to become famous all over the world or make millions just to prove ourselves worthy. People don't have to validate their work unless they're in a field in the arts, it's pathetic.

So I just did a quick google search and I found this www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/What… It's coming up in Jan-Feb next year. It's not solely visual art, there are performances and stuff, but that way you'll probably have a greater chance at roping friends into going with you xD I also found this site www.melbournefestival.com.au/ you can search events by genre, so you can look for visual art events coming up in Melbourne (I think that's the way it works anywho). I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for news on Melbourne for you though, I generally just listen out for stuff going on in Adelaide because that's where I'm closest to, but I've definitely heard about bigger things going on in Melbourne and Sydney.
The problem is advertising. There are things going on, but they're only advertised in certain circles, which cuts off a whole group of possible participants and business from people who are actually interested but don't know where to look. It's silly.

I KNOW RIGHT! OMFG EXACTLY WHAT I THINK!!!!!!! How messed is it! 'Real Job', pffft, more like stuck in misery and suppressing the thing you really love. Sigh.

Exactly! Validation, it's ridiculous. Why do we need to prove ourselves to everyone around us just to be 'real' people with 'real' jobs -_-.

what!WHAT ! HOW DID YOu FIND THESE SO EASILY WTF I ALWAYS SEARCH FOR FUN EVENTS IN MELBOURNE LIKE THIS AND I CAN NEVER FIND ANY You magic thing, you! I'm definitely going to go to that, friends or not! Hahaha.
I usually use that site to try and find stuff, but I never find anything, seriously!!!!! Thanks so much, you're actually so kind and caring and I appreciate everything you've done for me! I'm so blessed to have become friends with you!!

Exactly! It's annoyign because art isn't so mainstream so advertising for it is so exclusive and so hard to find.

Also, I CAN'T BELIEVE I WASN'T WTACHING YOU ALREADY WHAT IS THIS!!!!
