Description Station Nine
(of Fourteen)

"Jesus Falls for the Last Time"

Mixed media oilgraph on canvas with blood
36"x36"

History
The Stations of the Cross are the fourteen traditional panels
depicting the final moments of Christ's life starting with his condemnation
to death at the hands of Pilate to his crucifixion and burial in the tomb. Over
the years pilgrims would go to Jerusalem and walk the route Jesus took on his
way to the cross, stopping at moments along the way to remember, reflect and
pray. The Stations began appearing in the middle ages when pilgrims were forbidden
to enter Jeruselem when it was occupied by the Turks. They made the Stations
as a way to remember in Spirit back in their own countries. Long considered
only a Catholic tradition, they are now finding a popularity across all traditions.
These are my versions. This journey started in January of this year and the
last of the Fourteen was completed April 4th.

Thank you...It's real, though in such a small amount that it's more symbolic than anything else. I basically but a drop on each one.

Thank you! and well technically there is blood in the work. You can't see it though.

The whole thing started years ago before I had a matt cutter and I accidentally sliced open my finger and bled all over a piece. Then I thought "y'know...there's something visceral and symbolic about having my own blood on (if not in) a piece." So I would wait to have some sort of mishap around the studio and put a smear of blood on all of the new work. But for this series I did in fact have my very hesitant roommate stick me in the shoulder with an x-acto knife to get a couple of drops to put on each piece...but again it's more symbolic than visual...

it's soo darn visualistic. i knwo nothing about art, and yet: I FUCKING LOVE IT! haha, using ur own blood. i bet edward cullen ran 4 his life.(i hate twilight btw) you're soo talented. it's amazingly beautiful and has meaning to it. did the knife hurt when you stuck it in your self? i've never thought of it being art. it's beautiful.

Woops....sorry I've been insanely busy and haven't had a chance to comment. Thanks again...
I don't remember the pain actually...I was pretty much out of my mind by that point. Though there are photos of it happening...

Again, that theme of the colors in the sky continues with the "Fall" pieces. The way that color is now spread across the horizon, yet still intense, let's me know that it is calming down. It's not as quick to lash out, and show pride in what it's doing. It's subdued, perhaps realizing what is happening... seeing that maybe things have gone too far. This shows through with the soldier as well. No arm raised with whip in hand this time.. just a silent look down at the man who he likely has never met/known. I suppose he could be contemplating quite a bit right here. And thats the beauty of this piece for me. Makes it even nicer to come back and view it, knowing that I can possibly take a slightly new meaning or story from it each time.

Oh, man. What an amazingly powerful piece. I swear these get more and more heartwrenching with each post. It is incredible what you can do with the tools you use. Blood? Just awesome. The lighting is my favorite part about this piece. Without it, it would be just as stunning, but it really adds something special and makes it just that bit more intense. Beautiful work. Your talent is boggling.

Fucking brilliant. Although I am not a religious person by nature, I think all people in the Western world would find some meaning in these works. My attempt at religious art pales humbly at these works. Great job.

How much blood did you loose in the making of the stations?...

Hardly any....just a touch on each.
Unlike on the Awakening when my drunken roommate accidentally buried the x-acto knife in my arm...

Very dark atmosphere. The image differs from the common stereotype of Christ being mutilated, but even without that the right feeling radiates from the picture. Nice job! , definitely.
