Hecaya is the arid homeworld of the Meroke race, located on the outskirts of the galaxy in the Outer Arm on the critical trade route that leads from the Gibahagekh Commonwealth to Xannacoarru space- due to this, the planet and it's inhabitants have historically been in a bloody clash over control of the region with the neighboring Millirlien.

Hecaya itself is the second world around a lower mass G type star called Ihnent, orbiting somewhat eccentrically (0.071 to Earth's 0.016) close to the inner edge of the habitable zone and thus exposed to a high rate of radiation and solar wind. Lacking a big mass or even a large moon for tidal heating, it's interior has already begun to cool, leading to the solar bombardment to be even more potent. Thus, it's atmosphere is relatively thin and it's hydrosphere reducing, it's surface dominated by blistering deserts- deserts that are crisscrossed by great rivers, many of which are seasonal due to the eccentric orbit, drying up in the summer and carving great river beds in the winter, transporting great amount of sediments and organic material to deposit them on the shores. During the summer, most of the planet seems dead, little more than a rock with some large, landlocked seas. In the winter, however, the planet comes to life, with rapid growing plants giving it great streaks of green. Animal life is thus very adapted to this cycle, the vast majority of them hibernating in underground burrows during the worst of the heat wave.

Some animals, however, take advantage of the fauna's need for hibernation and evolved to be more resilient; one of them is the native sapients, the Meroke, dedicated hunters that much like the planet live in two cycles: hunting for sleeping food during the summer and resting- but not hibernating- during the winter. Most of their settlements are also underground, having evolved from burrowers, and they habitually store great amounts of resources in their closely guarded vaults. The need for protecting their hoards from other predators as well as rival meroke tribes has led to a very warlike civilization, one who's people are known for their greed and and even outright paranoia over threats. When they were finally discovered by spacefarers in 800 CE, the early atomic age settlements's first response was to set out from their home, acquire as much for themselves and hoard it back on their homeworld. This quickly got them in a millennia long rivalry with the neighboring millirlien as the two struggled to dominate the limited but very much lucrative trade going towards the xannacoarru.

The meroke, reluctantly, banned together to form a loose coalition known only as The Empire- the Meroken Empire to most other civilizations- and set out to crush any competition.
