July 21, 2010 AD, Mankind held its breath as the united forces of the Earth Union moved to confront the unknown alien fleet massing near Neptune. The Union armada was spearheaded by the German Reich’s Raumkriegsmarine, with large contingents from the United States, Imperial Federation, Co-Prosperity Sphere, and Soviet Union. However, instead of meeting in battle, the Alien fleet showed no signs of hostility and was in reality attempting to communicate with the Union forces. In a show of good will the bulk of the alien fleet stayed in orbit around Neptune while a small diplomatic mission was escorted by a detachment of the Union fleet back to Earth. Here the alien ships landed at the crash site of the Goliath, which by this time was now home to a vast city of over five million people, and who now all watched in awe of this monumental event. The aliens disembarking from their ship appeared just as the beings discovered on the Goliath. with an average height of almost twelve feet, varying shades of dark skin, as well as catlike ears pointing out from the side of their heads. The alien delegation met with representatives of the Earth Union, they called themselves “Pharans” a species of humanoids who’s home System was located somewhere in the arm of Perseus. The Pharans told the representatives that the Goliath was part of their navy, that it was heavily damaged in battle almost a century ago and due to a malfunctioning of it’s signal beacon. They were unable to locate it prior to the reactivation of it’s generator.

The Pharans claimed to be part of a Hegemony of sorts, where they as the dominant species of their sector ruled over lesser species through a strict hierarchy not too different to that implemented in Germany, in which the racial caste structure gave greater privileges to pureblood Aryans over lesser races such as Jews and Slavs. This revelation disturbed nations such as the United States and Imperial Federation though was regarded by the Germans as proof of the superiority of National Socialism being a universal truth among all intelligent life. However, ultimately the Pharans did not come to Earth to recover their lost ship. Rather they had come seeking allies against an enemy which sought total domination of the whole galaxy. They spoke of a great war that the Pharans had been locked in for over a hundred years, one in which they were losing. Their enemy was a coalition of three powers. One known as the Tyarch Republic, a species which had long since shed their organic bodies in favor of machine ones, their strength is in their massive industry which allows them to create vast armadas of drones and automated warships. The second being the Dominion of Sythia, a people almost identical to humans and known for their great philosophers as well as for the skill of their soldiers. Finally the largest and most powerful of the three being the Great Empire of Ashokka. The Ashokkans ruled a vast empire covering half the Galaxy, they believe themselves to be the apex of civilization and that they alone possessed the mandate to rule the Universe. They too are also humanoid though feature purple skin with antlers growing out of their skulls.

The Pharans warned that they were on the brink of defeat. That their home world had been conquered and their forces scattered across what little remained of their territory. Above all else the Pharans made one message clear to humanity, once they fall Mankind will be next. Taking decisive action, the Union’s Directorate Council ordered a mass mobilization of the Earth’s forces and over the next two years Mankind prepared for its first conflict in the heavens. In that time the Pharan refugees would be resettled on Neptune and construct a number of cities in the ice giant’s atmosphere. Some Pharans would attempt to integrate into human society on Earth and others would join the Union’s military in order to take part in the liberation of their homeland. In September of 2012, the Union Joint Strike Force set out with much fanfare to both free the oppressed species of the galaxy as well as protect the Earth from conquest by the despotic powers described by the Pharans. On October 4, the UJSF ambushed and destroyed a small Ashokkan auxiliary fleet, this act marked the official beginning of the conflict that is known by many names, the Galactic War, First Star Crusade, and more popularly the Black Hole Wars.

Over the next twelve years mankind would liberate the occupied worlds of the Phara Hegemony and drive deep into Ashokkan territory. During the conflict further intelligence was gathered on the enemy through a series of campaigns and through the interrogation of prisoners. The Tyarchi for example, live for thousands of years, even being older than the Ashokkans. However despite their longevity they are fearful of anything that presents a danger to them, they let drones do their fighting while most of their population remain in a sort of augmented reality. Only coming out to recharge their systems or to ensure that their machines are still running. The Ashokkans are a large and powerful state, though their doctrine over empathizes the use of melee weapons over long range projectile ones. While the Ashokkans did use projectile weapons they were limited to artillery and naval forces. Leaving them greatly outgunned in combat against Union forces, leading to a disproportionately high casualty rate. The Sythians however, proved to be the most adept enemy humanity faced during the conflict. Their fighting doctrine was similar to that of the Union’s and their forces would often supplement that of the Ashokkans and Tyarchi. They were extremely decentralized with their society best resembling that of Anarcho-Monarchism. They had no fixed capital their governors often ruled their territory in a very laissez faire manor. Their leader, known as the Dominus, traveled across the whole of dominion territory administering justice and conducting diplomacy when needed. Though in times of war the powers of the Dominus became that of an absolute monarch. The ultimate downfall of the Sythians was that they had to stretch their forces out extremely thin across multiple fronts leading to them finally making a separate peace with the Union after the devastating Battle of Siren. Following the battle their Dominus laid dead, Scythian core territory was left open to attack, and nearly the entirety of the elite Void Rangers were either killed or captured.

While the Tyarchi certainly possessed a large industrial base and could produce swarms of drone soldiers and spacecraft. It was quickly discovered that a well timed and well positioned electromagnetic pulse emitted from a nuclear detonation could easily break the signaling between individual units and their commanders. The drones would then become confused, disoriented, and unable to coordinate with other units. All but leaving them essentially as sitting ducks for union infantry and fighters. After only a few losses the Tyarchi retreated back to their own worlds and refusing to directly engage with the UJSF. The war with the Ashokkans would be a long and bitter conflict, their will to fight was unmatched and even when outnumbered a handful of Ashokkans soldiers would rather fight to the last man then allow themselves to be captured. The Ashokkan’s crown prince also proved to be a keen strategist and brave warrior. At the time of the Black Hole Wars, the Ashokkan Emperor was old and sickly leaving most of the actual governing of the Empire as well as leadership over the armed forces falling to the prince. After a three years offensive the Union’s assault on the Empire finally grinded to a halt with the conflict turning into a back and forth struggle for control of worlds located on the Empire’s borderlands. Finally in 2025 the long stalemate was broken, an offensive launched in the Artemis Sector succeeded in driving deep into Ashokkan territory. The offensive was lead by the Union’s Third Fleet with the Battleship Rommel, USS Joseph Kennedy Jr, HMS Britannia, Space Battleship Tōgō, and Star-Carrier Alexander Nevsky all taking part in the offensive.

The Third fleet succeeded in breaking a massive Ashokkan counter offensive led by the Immortal Guard and in the process capturing an imperial Dyson laser. This disaster and the threat of being vaporized by their own weapon, forced a total withdrawal of Ashokkan forces from the frontline and deeper into imperial territory. Though before the Ashokkans could properly reorganize their forces were once again smashed by the Third fleet who proceeded to launch a direct assault on the Ashokkan home world itself. Though the planet had a strong defense system it was thrown into chaos by the Third fleet tethering a swarm of asteroids to their ships and hurling them at the planet. This with a combination of orbital strikes devastated the capital world’s surface effectively rendering it uninhabitable and killing billions. This act would become one of the most controversial moves in human military history with scholars debating the rationale and motives of it for decades to come, though it succeeded in ultimately shattering the Ashokkan Empire into a multitude of petty warlord states and bringing a final end to the war on August 10, 2025. Though the fighting between Humans and the other intelligent life of the galaxy was far from over. Meanwhile back in the Sol System not long after the victory over the empire was announced, the Pharan fleet based at Neptune advanced on the Earth. Sleeper agents were activated all over the world with a number of key military sites and communication networks being sabotaged or destroyed. After this surprise attack a simple ultimatum was made to the Directorate, join the Hegemony or be wiped from existence.
