Description Been thinking about doing this for a while and finally got down to doing it this morning. Basically it's an experiment, as opposed to simply a normal fanart, an excercise in doing your own "versions" of pre-existing character designs. The Batman villains are among of the most intriguing designs I've ever seen and wanted to give it a shot. The point was also that this excercise shows similar shapes and elements that constantly appear within your art style. Here's a rundown of what I did:

The Joker - Not sure how well this one came out compared to the others, since I know folks're particular on how Mr. J looks these days. I think I ended up borrowing a few traits from Bon Clay from One Piece, but my friend mentioned he's got a bit of Evan Splooge from the Parody Rangers Movie goin' on. I used Sharky's long teeth from Gamesavers, which a few artists make use of for Joker and I liked how his hair looks. The "HA-HA"s on his clothing I could've pulled off a little better.

The Scarecrow - I designed this one a long time ago kind of outta nowhere, so I suppose Scarey is the one who inspired the whole idea. I didn't necassarily keep to how the character was supposed to be, since for this version I made him very deformed and kinda gross. My take on Scarecrow seems like some guy who'd go around stealing chickens and hissing at people. Then he'd get shot. I dunno.

The Penguin - My version of ol' Oswald is like a fat version of Billiam from Parody Rangers. His face came out really funny and I gave his skin and hair an Irish tone since I believe that's what he is? I think? Kept the penguin hands of course, the suit could've turned out better and maybe the umbrella, which looks like something outta Nightmare Before Christmas now.

Catwoman - My favorite version of Catwoman's design is actually from "The Batman", the whole shape of it was just really badass, so I yoinked a few elements from that one, such as her whip that loops around like a cat tail. Made her "helmet" (?) a bit different though, to look like a creepy cat face and made her eyelashes into the whiskers. When I added the claws, I realized she looks pretty close to how I draw Rapmaster Flux from the TTA Movie, who I always described as a "Dominatrix Batman" of which Catty now exemplefies even more. Her boots could've been pulled off better, I think I used Alpha's multi-straps on his TTA design but made them look like they're squishing too much fat. Oh well, she drinks a lotta milk?

Two-Face - Harvey I wasn't sure about but I became prouder of it as I went on. His other face I ended up making a cross between different things, but bleaching was the main thing I had in mind. For the rest of his body, I had him looking very dirty, like he was a crook down on his luck after losing his big-time job when he was once a good guy. I also tried to keep him "pretty" but he hadn't been able to take care of his looks by now, hence the messy hair and 5'o clock shadow. Looking back I should've made the other half of his clothing kinda dirty too instead of just the screwed-up half.

The Riddler - Ed Nigma was the first one after Scarecrow I had done in a while and his redesign made me wanna try doing the rest of the villains pictured here. I chose to make him a little more geeky looking, since I remember him being a lab assistant or something in one of the stories, but he "cleaned up" real nice once he got his crap together and made a supervillain outfit. The "?"s everywhere fit pretty well, especially with the cane and tie, the latter of which I don't remember anyone trying with his design but I'm probably wrong on that one. Also as I'm submitting this, I noticed the right side of his outfit got miscolored, but it still looks okay (a.k.a. don't feel like fixing it, sorry).

Mr. Freeze - Victor I thought was my absolute worst, but the same friend who commented on Joker's design said he really liked it, particularly his expression. He looks like a kooky blue version of Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story or something. Eh, not my favorite so not much to say.

Poison Ivy - This one's my favorite, in fact I may refine this design and do a single picture of just her with maybe Harley thrown in since I left the puddin' out. I went in KNOWING full-well she was gonna look like Dulcy from the Parody Rangers Movie and I was actually okay with it. Could've done better with the leafy pattern on her top and skirt, but her hair I think came out really nice, with the mistle-toe scrunchy thing and the tulip that acts like a crown were some nice touches I think. By the time I got to inking and coloring she didn't turn out as sexy as I would've hoped though, ah well.

So yeah! I feel like and have been doing this long before I ever thought of the idea, but give it a shot! My fellow artists who watch me, those've you guys who're up to it and feel you can make a fine line between this and a normal fanart, I'd love to see 'em. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated too :]

Nice nice, I like the posture of most of them, although body proportions wise...Then again your drawings are mostly cartoon style if I recall correctly, It's a decent piece of art. You should do line drawings more, I'm sure you already know that animators use lines and stuff, if I'm right? Practice makes perfect, as annoying as that sentence gets, I suppose it's true for the most part. I also think you have the talent and perseverance for that kind of thing.

The drawing is great, keep up the good work.

The Riddler is the best. Top notch. It always made me think that the Joker and Riddler were kind of the same. They were both crazy and tricky. One was silly the other was pure logical to the point of being silly. "What thing flys up but never falls down?" ....What? Basically it fits the characteristic of The Riddler to a T. Even with the Black color deal.

I guess an other reason they seem the same to me is that they both were trick players. The Joker been shown to have power but overall uses trick weapons. So the same mind set is needed. Smart in order to fight both of them. I don't know it just seems that way to me that they share something in common.

First off, awesome work.
Second, I'll agree with you on Freeze. He doesn't look too epic. But hell worse could have happened.
The main thing that looks off is Penguin's hands. They don't really show signs of extra fingers.
However, now that I think of it maybe that'd be a little more accurate since he shares the likeness of a penguin.

Bah! I'm just running in circles. Anywho, these came out great. Especially the Riddler.

I'm diggin all these.
I like how Freeze kinda looks like a nazi, Riddler's tie is awesome, Scarecrow almost looks like a more messed up Mugen, and I can pretty much see how the Penguin would be if you animated him.
Oh and Batman's head is too big

The scarecrow looks like his face may be disfigured beneath the mask. It's the way his eyes are spaced out, but whether or not it's a mistake or intentional it does get across the hint that he may have turned villain due to social rejection from society.

Two-face looks awesome and I like the upside down question mark being used as Riddler's tie.

I'm digging this man I really am nice stuff here I like the designs of Poison Ivy and Freeze the best, Freeze kinda looks steampunkish there and just awesome. Poison Ivy needs to show more skin period, your version does this. plus it seems more fitting, Poison Ivy is supposed to be this temptress but wears a one piece suit at all times? C"mon..... lol

The other designs are good too the only one I really have a problem with is two-face. the faces themselves are fine but he seems too meterosexual there like "Oh i'm showing my chest and naval.. I AM MANLY." almost like a square enix character would or Iori from KOF

Top notch man hell I may follow suit and do this too it's inspired me quite a bit. May even do the heroes as well. Not that theres alot you can do to alter the status-quo bat-suits though...

A+!

Scarecrow looks pretty bad, and Poison Ivy is Rockin'. Never saw the Catwoman episodes of THE Batman, but from the opening bit she looked pretty good for her redesign. Her clothing seems rather bulky for a cat-burglar(pun intended).
The Joker I think most people think of is the one voiced by Mark Hamil. The 90's animated one, even with the minor redesign they did to coincide with the animation style of the Superman Cartoon.
Mr. Freeze...I am thinking of the Buzz lightyear reference, but more towards XR and XL from the animated series...Where Buzz was voiced by the guy who does Brock Samson.
Riddler reminds me of The Doctor from Doctor Who..one of his earlier versions.
Also; no Killer Croc, Solomon Grundy or Bane?

Kirbopher15 In reply to Des-Shinta [2009-03-31 03:44:43 +0000 UTC]

The ones that mainly came to mind were the ones from the live-action movies, dunno if I'll do the others, but Bane I thought about.

Wow, really nice work on this. Yanno, for some reason when I look at your version of the Joker I feel that it kind of has the essence of Kefka in it, I think mainly because of the whole 'sycho clown/jester' look, but still it's a good element to have with him I believe.
Regardless, great job.

I like Joker and Poison Ivy's designs, but I think Scarecrow can be fixed a bit, I liked how he was in 'Darker' Batman animated series and in "Gotham Knight", when he actually seemed scary
