Description Daoine Sidhe ~ The People of the Hollow Hills
*********************************
Update - I have made a stand alone image of the left hand figure [link] If people are interested I may made similar stand alone images of the other two Sidhe.

This image is totally lost unless you’ve seen a full view. To really see it, press download for a 4.5 M 3000 x 2384 version.

This is my interpretation of the daoine sídhe, pronounced deena shee. The daoine sídhe are fairy races under the hollow hills, the people of the mounds. Originally they were the inhabitants of Ireland before the sons of Adam, but they were driven underground and became the fairy-folk or the sídhe of Irish Mythology and Folk Lore”. In the older tales they do not have wings, and are often humanoid in size and shape, and are said to love the dawn and the dusk.

To my mind the fair folk are not evil; they are simply other – living by different rules to we humans, and with a totally different view of the universe and how it works. They are wild, untamed, free. The gentry can be enchanting, mesmerizing, and stunningly beautiful, but they can also be ugly in body or in soul. They are wonderful, glorious, seductive, highly sexual and very, very dangerous.

The idea of a sídhe in rags wielding bone weapons is all my own imagination but to me it fits the primitive and wild nature of some of the stories. The elven style ears, the scaled green skin and the horns are also from my own ideas rather than recorded tales. My sídhe have also been partly inspired by the wonderful book “Faerie Tale” by Raymond E. Fiest.

Here are some links to more information about the sídhe

Supposedly, the siddhe are what happens when you give fairies their dignity back.

And of course, nothing says "dignified" and "elegant" like engaging in huge orgies, right?

Thanks so much for this comment. I suppose it depends on what you mean by evil. I see the Sidhe as having a totally different set of values, rather than deliberately inflicting pain and death for fun.

This is true still who can say what their intentions were we were not in attendance when the stories were first told

Thanks so much for the comment

Why adult? You can see bare bums in the original size - I managed to hide the pubic hair on show. I only listed it as mild nudity but I suppose I play it safe.

Thanks very much. I got into the habit of writing lon explanations on another forum, and I've kept it up here. Some people seem to like it, and those who don't can just not read it

I had the same problem when I uploaded my Cú Chulainn vs Bheithir piece. I guess they just don't allow non-english characters in the titles ; ; (Speaking of which, sorry to point it out, but I noticed that it says Daoine Dídhe ~ The People of the Hollow Hills at the top of your artist comments, should be Sídhe, right?)

This piece is fantastic! The first thing I noticed was how green the skin on the woman on the left is. You really made it stand out by placing the middle figure's hand on her forearm. Great job

The next thing I thought was that there was such variety in them, you really portray the animalism and sexuality of your subjects quite well. It took me a long time to look at the background and notice the light coming from the mound. It's nice how this sort of fits with the story, that they sort of faded away, it seems the light is pulling them, drawing them on to their new home, wherever that may be.
