Do you feel sometimes though that symmetry can be somewhat restraining, like the figurative safety-net or security-blanket?

I guess it could be seen that way. I find it cold to look at from time to time. But then again , by and large, symmetry is the way the natural world arranges itself with the occassional quirk to keep things interesting. I think that's way I don't consistantly work on symmetrical art.

Hmmm, 'cold' is an interesting description of symmetry. It does occur a lot as you say, & i've employed it much in mandalas & so on, but the quirkiness of the asymetric has a bigger hold on me perhaps.

Really amazing anime film about a futuristic form of psychotherapy in which therapists can enter their patients' dreams via this machine, but something goes awry and a character has to correct the problem from inside her patient's subconscious. Beautiful visual sequences, great music, I highly recommend it to anyone
