Description Hee hee... and guess what else I made since I got home!

This is a maiko style set of Fuji (wisteria) kanzashi. Ever since I first saw this style of kanzashi I was in love with the wisteria ones. I thought of buying myself some, but in the end I finally got off my butt and made a set. I dyed all the fabric for these myself too. I think I'll add some bira-bira to these, but I've got to wait for them to arrive from Japan. I also need to wait for some hardware to arrive as well. At the moment these are strategically perched in the katsura, they don't have any pins or the like on the backs yet.

I made this set to match the furisode karinui I recently purchased: [link] I'm going to sew it up and make a darari obi from a fabric bolt I bought. It will be one really kickass maiko cosplay for AN 2008 I can tell you that.

Right now, this kanzashi set has a retail value of $220. That will likely go up a bit more once I add the finishing hardware and bira-bira pieces.

Woah, this is goregeous! I love how relativly simple it looks, with the softer, natural colors. And I love how the one side is longer than the other! It makes it seem more natural.

Oh. So pretty, great job. I just noticed all those small pieces of fabric have the blue in the same spots. Do they sell specific fabric for kanzashi? or just from scraps? (thought they were scraps)

Also do you make those little metal pieces that hang down from the kanzashi
(like [link] )
or are they not that expensive to buy? o.o
P.S. Sorry for all the questions. ^ ^

Thank you! Yes, you can purchase special fabric for making kanzashi, but these ones were made from kimono scraps. I dyed the blue into each petal myself before folding it. The metal pieces are known as bira-bira and can be purchased here: [link]

Hope that helps!

I'd have to say this one is my all time favorite. I love the natural colors, the green, blue, and pink, they all really fit int place! And it's quite skinny, unlike the full flowers, and I think I like it better. Do you sell them? And this one would cost about...

Thanks very much! I actually made this set for a maiko costume I plan to wear. Because of that I don't know exactly how much I'd sell a similar set for. I think the set would probably be around $220 - $250 Canadian all finished.

Thank you! I've been interested in Japanese culture since I was little. My mom used to tell me I should have been born Japanese. I spent a lot of time as a kid learning various art forms at the Japanese Cultural Centre near my house.
