Description These were made from the lining scraps of my Little Green Girl Furisode [link] They're basically a plum maiko set, but the flowers and clusters are a little smaller than I normally make them, so these would probably be best suited to a young girl - just like the furisode! So they're kind of a set.

Retail Value: (kanzashi only)

oh i love the colors on that! so sweet. i wonder, would a Japanese child wear anything on their heads for like a spring festivle? Something like...Tanabata i think or the Matsuri one?

Thank you! Little girls mostly wear kanzashi like this for 3-5-7 girl's day celebrations. Dancers will also wear them for performances. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure that kids would wear such hair ornaments when dressing up for other festivals as well.

Out of curiousity, 'cause we're having problems out here. How do you differentiate between plum, cherry, and peach blossoms?

To be honest I've rarely ever seen peach blossom kanzashi (I know they exist, I've just not seen them commonly, or in a while). From what I understand it's the flower centres that are the main point of difference. Plum blossoms are usually depicted with prominent stamen (though this isn't always the case). And from what I remember, peach blossoms are made with fuzzy centres. Plum and peach blossoms are both done with round petals, while cherry blossoms are done with clefted petals. Cherry blossoms are the ones with the cute heart shaped petals.

I can't think of a little girl that wouldn't be mad with glee to have something so beautiful to wear. It definitely beats the tired old tiara!

Oh, dear.... these are just too beautiful. The little bits of gold in the red ones, the tasteful asymmetry... I wanna learn to be a maiko now, just so I could wear these~~

jk, jk... xD
